Assessment centre
One-on-one interview
During assessment centre there were two group activities which focus on team work. Next we were taken onto shop floor one-by-one, wearing a trainee badge and you must interact with customers, ask them if they need any help. You don't need to know the answer, the person shadowing you will answer any questions the customer asks, you just need to show that you are comfortable in talking to customers. Next we had to do a 2 min presentation on an item of our choice from the shop floor. Then you have a one-on-one interview where they go through a series of questions about your availability etc and the role you applied for. Then you await a call or letter to confirm you got the job. The assessment centre can last between 2 hours to 3.5 hours. It was fun though, I enjoyed the day.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at B&Q (Southend-on-Sea, England) in Mar 2025
Interview
One on one interview, with loads of questions, some that were fairly straightforward to answer and some that required a bit more thinking and could be hard to think of quickly on the spot. Management were very friendly. It took a couple of days after the interview to be offered a position.
