      Sales Manager Interview

      Jul 2, 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Atlassian in Jun 2023

      Interview

Screening: very thorough with two-way communication encouraged. Hiring Manager Interview: again very solid. Resume was reviewed just the right amount with behavioral questions mixed in. Recruiter Sync: by far the best part of Atlassian's process. When it is confirmed that you are a finalist, the same recruiter who did your screening meets one last time to answer questions about what to expect in the final round. Final Round (Peer, Culture, Cross-functional, Skip-Level): I believe this to be a big miss on Atlassian's end. Talk is cheap in sales and to have four mini-interviews that do not include a project round (e.g. design a campaign, present a 30/60/90) for a sales leader is shocking. Lastly, I was given constructive criticism that contradicted itself: One feedback item said that I did not attempt to dive deeper into a potential challenge, while another was a semi-accusation of how I conducted myself with a colleague at a past company (this was a total assumption on the interviewer's part) indicating that I might not be a team player. However, a grand total of 90 seconds were spent on this point, so the "not diving deeper" feedback cuts both ways. This is not sour grapes, I recognize that your competition for these jobs is the entire country; rather, I urge Atlassian to revisit their final round. Make each interview 45 minutes and give candidates a chance to show they can walk the walk. Your system is set up to let a lot of "slick" sales leaders in the door or ones who can be a carbon copy of the management clique that is getting such negative reviews.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Describe a time you had to deliver hard feedback. How do you manage high and low performers? What is your collaboration style for managers who are your peers? Tell me about a time where you missed a goal, what did you do about it?
