I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Alvarez & Marsal (London, England) in Sep 2019
Interview
I was encouraged to submit my CV and cover letter after an informational interview. This resulted in one phone call and three rounds of interviews.
The two first rounds were like a typical consulting fit interview but mostly focused on my operational experience, details in my CV, and expectations/motivations.
The third round was an atypical consulting case interview where I was given one hour to study and analyze a business case, followed by one hour of discussions regarding my findings with a senior A&M consultant. This was less about presenting a correct and final solution to the business issue presented in the case and more about describing my general approach to analyzing the problem and exploring potential actionable solutions together with the interviewer.
To properly analyze and understand the issue presented in the business case, the candidate should be familiar with short-term cash flow forecasting, working capital management, and balance sheet and income statement analysis and forecasting. A&M consultants pride themselves in providing actionable analysis and recommendations. They often take on operational responsibilities at their clients' firms. Therefore, be realistic, conservative, and down to earth when developing your analysis and recommendations.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Multiple questions regarding the skills and experiences presented in my CV.
I applied through university. I interviewed at Alvarez & Marsal (New York, NY) in Dec 2023
Interview
Standard multi-round process including an initial screening call, several interviews with team members, and a final discussion focused on role fit, experience, and expectations. Initial recruiter conversation followed by two to three interviews with managers and team members, covering background, role expectations, and general fit, concluding with a final decision discussion.
Screening HR call, then a 30 minute interview with a senior consultant and a partner. No case on the first round, entirely fit and experience. Made extra time for as I had another super day during my original interview slot.
