I applied to the job online on the company website, and about 10 days later I heard from someone who I imagine was a recruiter asking me to take 2 separate assessments. One was a personality test and the other was a pretty intense cognitive test that has 50 questions and needs to be completed in under 15 minutes.
Firstly, I do not like this approach to recruitment because it is, in my opinion a method to discriminate against people who would otherwise be completely capable of performing the duties of the job. No online test will ever represent someone's personality without meeting them, and the cognitive test has zero bearing on the job. Determining the sequence of squares to triangles to circles to (... ) is irrelevant.
I took the tests but never heard back from anyone, which leads me to believe either I did not do well or they just went with another candidate, which leads me to say that if you contact a candidate for an interview or assessment, you should have the courtesy to get back to them should they not be selected for advanced screening.
Below is how they describe their assessment in the email they will send you:
Part 1: Personality
Intended to describe aspects of an individual's character that are relevant to their job performance. Please note that:
This part is untimed; usually takes 10-15 minutes to complete
There are no "right" or "wrong" answers
Part 2: Cognitive (50 questions)
Measures an individual's aptitude, or ability to solve problems, digest and apply information, learn new skills, and think critically. Please note that:
This part is timed - you will have exactly 15 minutes to complete this section
There is a timer located on the top right of your screen
50 questions are to be completed - you are not penalized for incorrect answers and your chances at a higher score will increase if you complete all 50 questions
All questions are weighted equally
You have ~18 seconds per question- make an educated guess if one question is taking up too much time. DO NOT SPEND TOO MUCH TIME ON ANY ONE QUESTION
Calculators or problem solving devices are not permitted, but a pen and paper are allowed if needed
