      Graduate Area Manager Interview

      Oct 30, 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Cardiff, Wales
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 months. I interviewed at ALDI (Cardiff, Wales) in Aug 2017

      Interview

5 stages- application form, psychometric tests, video interview, group assessment and final interview. First two stages are easy. Stage 3 gets you thinking on your feet. You are presented with about 10 questions for which you have about 10 seconds to think about before you have to say your answer (which is also timed). Stage 4 is group assessment. Had 3 other candidates there, which started with a simple introduction and stating what our favourite Aldi product was. Then had to do a presentation on certain topics, eg till operations, special buys, product range etc. Make sure you're well informed on all these areas, as the assessor grills you at the end of your presentation. Finally, the assessor gives you a group task, debating what candidate is best for a project management job. You have 10 mins to read about 10 pages of A4 paper, and also get a mini presentation together, which was extremely difficult! Then everyone has to debate which candidate they think is best out of the task and again put another presentation together for the assessor. The assessor then grills you and your choice, and turns into a strict character when doing this. This stage was difficult, but if prepared well enough then it is a good experience! Finally, stage 5. The MD was not a nice person, he ripped me apart! I realise this was his job, and he was trying to break me, but it seemed overly extreme, being rude and derogating my character. Go in to this with a tough mindset, and go toe to toe with him! Have examples prepared of everything you say about yourself, eg if you are a person who doesnt conform to the group and likes to lead, then how? Etc etc. The md started off by asking me to tell him about my life so far. Very broad question to address so have a few key points ready in mind. He also was enquiring all about my family, such as their professions, how long have i been with my partner for etc, which seemed quite intrusive and not relevant to why me being employed by Aldi. Overall i did enjoy the process, but to find out I didnt get the job after 5 months of spending my time on this application, not getting any feedback left a pretty sour taste on my tongue, especially when I felt the md had been very rude to me at the final stage.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at ALDI (London, England) in Oct 2023

      Interview

Overly lengthy application process. They are looking for a very particular individual regardless of technical experience or capability. If you have a group of people that are not particularly capable, It is almost impossible to do the group exercise properly without coming across as overbearing.
