I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Vertex and was very sad to leave due to family relocation out of the Boston area. My five years remain the highlight of my career thus far in terms of opportunity for career advancement, highly engaged and apt leadership, exciting science, and smart, passionate colleagues. Company culture and pride is very strong. PTO is very generous, summer and winter shutdowns are a blessing. Work-life balance is very good even during busy times.

The company pushes employees for referrals but I referred countless highly qualified individuals from my network, none of whom were ever screened for interviews. The rigidity and lack of flexibility on Flex@Vertex designations are unforgiving; I knew there was no possibility of negotiating a remote or hybrid position within my organization despite myriad competitors (and my current employer) offering this flexibility. Vertex continues to lose talent as a result.

Here the cons: - Depending on your team & department you may be overworked due to limit budget per team - Management will invest in you if are considering on staying within specific departments - Team members will sometimes not communicate effectively - Expectations are high when handling multiple projects and team member expect a lot out of you, sometimes too much

Hires great people who truly care about patients first, the company is scaling to support its successful and transformative pipeline, which provides fantastic career growth opportunities within the company, and compensates well above market median in equity, which has become incredibly valuable. Future outlook is very bright for Vertex, and the people here understand this, and work hard to help us to deliver transformative medicine faster and to more patients.

We are growing, but sometimes not fast enough, so there are stretches where you might be wearing more hats than your job description might suggest. We embrace the complexities of the markets we enter to better serve our patients, but sometimes taking a simpler approach can save time and money to achieve very similar outcomes.
