Pros
The discount is good and I used it frequently
The clothes are nice
Leaving the store was the highlight of my year.
Cons
the managers at the Manchester Market Street store are extremely strict and treat the workers like they are all children.
They only hire women as they think men "are bad at their jobs" (actual quote) so its not a very diverse place to work.
they always forget to let us clock in during our vibe at the start of every shift so you lose 10mins+ of paid working time everytime you come to work.
The managers are very spiteful, rude and impatient with newer employees.
The standards they instil on workers are higher than any other urban store in the uk, causing the workers to be very burnt out.
They don't train new employees very well and blame older employees for issues caused by other members of staff not being properly trained.
Also the manager's favourite employees are allowed to get away with a lot whilst other employees get in trouble for almost no real reason.
Some managers have no idea on how long or how many people it takes to do one task and then complain when said task isn't finished.
We aren't allowed to purchase things during work hours but managers and their favorite employees can for some reason.
Staff arent allowed to speak to each other even when the store is empty and there is no tasks that can be done. They also get shouted at for talking to each other when we close the store so most of the time we work in silence.
Their favourite employees can also book time off in blackout periods when it isnt actually allowed.
We arent allowed to have water on shop floor (even hide it in staff only areas) so you get quite dehydrated on shift.
The air con is awful, its either too hot or too cold, the fitting rooms in the summer are BOILING hot, so being in there for two+ hours in a row has almost made me faint before.
During staff christmas parties only the managers have music they like playing (even though they make us add songs to the list and claim they put them all on it)
Alot of overtime during busy periods.
You will always have to work weekends.
Currently, there is only one manager that no staff member has an issue with, as shes the only one who treats us like we are people and not students in an institute for badly behaving children.
Overall it would be a nice place to work if the main managers were replaced.
