      Great Company to Work For

      Sales specialist
      Current employee
      Northville, MI
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good pay compared to other retailers, friendly customer base, and excellent employee culture.

      Cons

      Hours can lessen in off-seasons.

Entry Level Job - Great for High Schoolers

      Bike mechanic/ski technician
      Former employee
      Tigard, OR
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Pro-deals, cool layout of the stores, lots of super nice people work there

      Cons

Micro-managed, dusty work environment, little to no pay bonus quarterly/annually, has become super corporate, cares more about getting people to sign up for a credit card than helping people get out on their next trip, laid off people who had been there for years to turn around and hire 1,300 seasonal workers at the minimum wage for "re-structure"

      Great place to work

      Former employee

Good pay, great people, nice facility and flexible work hours

      Cons

      No cons from working here

      Leadership is Failing

      Lead software engineer
      Current employee
      Seattle, WA
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Remote work from home life works well with this company and the people they do hire. The pay is average for IT and the benefits are great and competitive for the most part. Time off is also average but also understanding of life situations. My co workers might be my favorite part of the job. Love working with them! I love the culture and I love the outdoors and almost everyone that works here does too. Most of the employees come here because they share the same love for something outside!

      Cons

Leadership has begun making some really really awful mistakes and they aren’t slowing down. More layoffs after 2 already last year and the promise of more coming in the next two years in the IT world. They likely won’t be hiring anytime soon and if they are, don’t bother. You might just get let go. Leadership is focusing more on money and less on its people, it’s full time employees who are invested in keeping REI a wonderful place to be. Leadership is reducing full time employee workforce in the IT department by 50% over the next two years and keeping contract forces the same or greater. In other words, hiring and playing less for developers who aren’t as invested in the company for its values. REI is no longer the place it used to be to work for. The people are still making it great but they are slowly dwindling and being let go. This is no way to run a company that was respected for its values. Something in leadership needs to change fast.

      Pros

amazing company, very nice shift choices and pay seems mostly fair as I work remote in a low income area and am paid Washington wages.

      Cons

scheduling, sick time, policy changes, they like to make changes all the time and you need to be very flexible and a nimble learner

Good part time job, limited mobility

      Store sales specialist
      Former employee
      Boulder, CO
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good pay, great benefits, great team environment.

      Cons

It was insinuated that there would be mobility to other positions after 3 months when hired in as a cashier, but after 6 months, there was still no word on mobility despite consistently high performance.
