Pros
Easy projects, good money, nice perks
Cons
Long hours, rude manager and hard to get pay raise
Pros
My manager is great and there are good perks and benefit packages.
Cons
We're living in the past as the company goes no where. Everyone knows it and talks about it openly behind the founders backs. Disney is the only thing holding up this shell of a company. Sadly, the equity all the employees have is near worthless and won't ever return to the last value. The company perfectly engineered for a 2021 world where every enterprise believed unlimited budgets, remote work forever, and unlocking human potential through $400/hour Zoom coaching sessions was the future of business. Unfortunately, the market shifted from inspirational wellness narratives to “show me the operational ROI immediately!" and it turns out human coaching businesses don’t scale like software. AI can now generate leadership advice infinitely cheaper, and CFOs are cutting transformational resilience journeys before they cut systems actually tied to revenue, compliance, or execution. So now BetterUp is stuck trying to convince the market it’s simultaneously a coaching company, an AI company, a leadership platform, a transformation platform, and probably a moonshot consciousness layer for enterprise humanity.
Pros
High achieving (but friendly, collaborative) environment, great for driven professionals looking to uplevel their skills and career, flexible work schedule allows me to prioritize school pick ups and personal life, company wide summer and winter breaks every year plus "inner work" days off and volunteer days, career opportunities for advancement (at least in my dept.), You'll work with some of the most capable, driven, kind individuals. I've been here for 3+ years and have no intention to leave, I like the work I do and the team I work with.
Cons
High achieving, high performance culture isn't for everyone (clearly). If you're looking to coast, this is not the place for you. There are pockets in the org with bad managers or poor leaders, and I agree they should be weeded out ASAP because they're clearly bringing down the majority of the org which is filled with decent people who want to do the right thing and do good work. I wish they had a 401k match.
Pros
Some really smart and good people who work there, whom you can learn a lot from.
Cons
The culture is toxic, but not as toxic as upper management. I have never been somewhere where you are made to feel like you are never good enough. There are so many politics and people scared to stand up against management that the work and people suffer.
Pros
Respectful pay, lots of continuing education opportunities, collaborative, and state of the art management, platform, and mission.
Cons
none, everything runs well from my perspective.
Pros
IC's are wonderful people and some of the smartest and hard working people I know. Lots of company time off (all federal holidays off, 3-4 inner work days and winter and summer corporate shutdowns). Free coaching is great and has truly helped me grow as a leader and person.
Cons
BetterUp values style over substance, lofty strategy over effective execution, thinkers over doers. The org structure is extremely top heavy with way too many Directors and VP's for the size of the company. Lots of politics and extremely low levels of trust. Data is a mess and has turned into a liability instead of an asset. Sales - reorgs every year for the last 4-5 years, new leaders coming in with their way of doing things. Very few hit quota unless a blue bird drops in your lap or you're a long timer. Absolutely zero sales enablement, be ready to learn the products and Salesforce on your own. R&D - chaotic with constant strategic shifts. Leadership are too "grounded in the science" and spend time building pretty slides instead of products/features that actually address customer needs. G&A - always being forced to do more with less, severely underrecognized and underappreciated. Certain teams have not grown in over 4 years even with more people they have to support, more complicated asks from management and tools being ripped out from under them.
Pros
Don’t work here, it’s not healthy
Cons
Where to start : Zero trust between the colleagues, the managers or especially inner circle AFs (alexis flu44ers) Product is coaching Coaches are contractors that work for every other competitor This is not a SaaS company This is not blue ocean. There is NOTHING innovative about Betterup just the marketing hype is different from the others. Get the coach directly and save yourself and the coach a fortune and all this baloney Founders hate each other Founders are disliked and untrusted by 95% of staff apart from the AFs Lots of the sales team are B players and wouldn’t get a job outside BU hence they cling on. Lots of the mgmt wouldn’t get a job outside of BU hence they cling on Investors must be pissed
Pros
Great people, sincerely. Lots of intelligent, kind, caring, hard working people trying to get things done. Good work life balance and managers of ICs are caring and compassionate.
Cons
Constant changes in strategy and re-orgs cause whiplash. 2 big layoffs 6 months apart. Senior leadership doesn't connect with lower level leadership on decision making and communication often is very poor about why decisions are made. Lots of burn out and stress.
Pros
Excellent concept and infrastructure; clients are the best -- many managers and directors who are being coached for the first time and so open and responsive. System of scheduling and being paid work well.
Cons
Coaches are underpaid. Coach evaluation system is broken. Top leadership is not leading well and needs to change. It's a shame to see coaches' experience and satisfaction slowly deteriorate over these past five years...and all because of poor leadership.
Pros
Competitive salaries and above-average compensation packages. Talented, intelligent, and driven individuals at the individual contributor (IC) level. A mission-driven focus that attracts purpose-driven employees who genuinely care about coaching and development. The product itself is genuinely impactful, and the 1:1 coaching services offered by BetterUp have helped so many people around the world — it's something I truly believe in.
Cons
Leadership is all over the place, constantly shifting directions with no real roadmap. For a company that's been around for over 12 years, it's frustrating to see them still calling themselves a startup and acting like one. Teams are stretched thin and expected to pick up the slack, while certain roles are created without much thought on what they should actually do. Despite promoting a coaching culture, it feels like we're more of a marketing and event company, spending huge amounts of money on things like Davos instead of focusing on internal growth. The CEO genuinely believes people are lining up to go on a two-week spiritual hike with him in Spain, like we're all teenagers without families or other responsibilities. It’s cringe-worthy, and most of us just roll our eyes. So many VPs, Vice-presidents and other fancy leadership roles all over the place. New managers are brought in but rarely take the time to connect with their teams or learn — 1:1s are few and far between. There's a growing sense of skepticism about the company's direction, and burnout is becoming the norm. The recent shift from remote-first to pushing people back to the office is unsettling, especially for those who live far away. It feels like remote employees will eventually be indirectly pushed out. Inclusiveness is a growing concern, with some employees being unfairly judged because of their location or working arrangements. Employees who take their rightful parental leave or have part-time contracts are made to feel like they’re not committed enough, which is incredibly disappointing for a company that preaches personal growth and balance.
