What is the hiring process like at Amtrak?

A good place to work in; has been some turnover

      Pros

Training is effective for new people; more than several have left the company.

      Cons

Turnover has impacted the company; I’ve seen at least 12 people leaving.

Probably a better company to join early in your career and work your way up

      Pros

Fantastic benefits, PTO, and compensation. They have an incredible focus on transit safety in ways that go above and beyond anyone's expectations.

      Cons

Very poor onboarding. If you are not familiar with the transit industry, your head will spin. If you've worked in the transit industry for a while like I have, it's still extremely difficult as Amtrak has their way of doing things. Difficult to track down information or the people who can help prodive what you need. It's common to reach out to someone on a subject where you need information, only to have them pass you on to someone else, and this process may eventually have someone pass you back to where you started. Instead of hiring multiple people for complementary roles, Amtrak hires individuals for one roll and then stretch that employees' scope of work to do both. While Amtrak provides incredible benefits and offers more PTO than any company I've worked for, you'll be lucky if you get to use half of your PTO.
