Care Assistant Job Description

What is a Care Assistant?

A Care Assistant typically is employed by a home care agency. These home care agencies provide aid services for the elderly, sick, disabled or mentally ill. Care Assistants are tasked with helping care for people by dispensing medication, feeding and washing clients. Occasionally light housework is also involved. Depending on the type of employer, Cars Assistants can be supervised by an uncertified health care professional or un-certified management.

Outside of a High School Diploma, there no specific education requirements to hold a Care Assistant job position. Previous experience in a caregiving role is the main factor in being hired by a care agency with some formal education in the medical field being a plus. Should a person be employed by a certified caregiving agency, the need for formal education is in more demand. Being that these positions are helping the disadvantaged, having strong ethics, and a compassion to help people is a necessity.
