When Dan Moss joined Up & Away as a cleaner in October 2023, he never imagined he’d be tracking aircraft, managing teams and coordinating overnight operations at Bristol Airport. But that’s precisely what he’s doing now as an Allocator – a role he’s taken on with focus, dedication and an unstoppable work ethic. Dan’s journey into aviation wasn’t a lifelong plan. “I was just looking for a change from my last job,” he said. “I was about to begin a delivery job when I got the call from Up & Away. I started as a cleaner.” His hard work quickly stood out, and with support from leaders like his mentor, Bradley Berry, he was promoted and encouraged to keep growing. “Brad pushed for me to become a Team Leader, and when he moved up, he pulled me up, too.” Read more: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/from-cleaner-key-coordinator-dan-moss-keeps-things-moving-9rhdc/?trackingId=mGfxsHsBTQSQkZ1%2F9yxb%2FA%3D%3D
At first glance, a hospital emergency room and an airport gate seem worlds apart—one filled with medical urgency, the other with travel logistics. But for Alana Hassell, who’s walked both paths, the common thread is clear: people. Before starting her career in aviation, Alana was a certified medical assistant working in emergency rooms across Detroit. “It was high-pressure and nonstop. But it taught me how to stay calm and show compassion, even in chaos,” she says. Alana found her way into aviation during the pandemic, working on the ramp at United Airlines. After an injury took her off the ramp, she returned to healthcare briefly but never forgot the rush—and the joy—of working in aviation. Joining Unifi reconnected her to that energy. “I’m not supposed to be here,” says Mark Brown, Station Manager in San Diego. “Doctors told me I wouldn’t walk or work again—but I knew I had more to give.” Mark’s story begins in the U.S. Navy, where he served for 14 years. “I was a drill instructor, so I learned how to lead under pressure, how to communicate and how to motivate people with completely different backgrounds. It taught me a lot about respect—both giving and earning it.” After the Navy, he became a master trainer in the fitness world. “I specialized in corrective exercise and working with clients who had disabilities. Helping someone walk without a limp or lift their kids again—that was meaningful work.”
