      U.S. News & World Report has recognized three Penn State Health hospitals for delivering high-quality medical and surgical care. The magazine named Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Holy Spirit Medical Center and St. Joseph Medical Center in its 2025-2026 Best Hospitals rankings and ratings. U.S. News ranks hospitals for excellent care in 15 adult specialties and evaluates their performance in certain surgical procedures and medical conditions. Milton S. Hershey Medical Center earned national rankings in three specialties: gastroenterology and GI surgery, orthopedics and ear, nose and throat. The Medical Center is also recognized as high performing in five additional specialties: cancer, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, pulmonology and lung surgery and urology. Overall, U.S. News ranked Milton S. Hershey Medical Center as #1 in the Harrisburg metro region and #6 in Pennsylvania. Holy Spirit Medical Center is ranked as a high-performing hospital for treating hip fractures, pneumonia and heart arrhythmia. St. Joseph Medical Center earned a high-performing rating for treating congestive heart failure and heart attacks. Additionally, Penn State Health Rehabilitation Hospital, a joint venture between Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Select Medical, was ranked #47 nationally for rehabilitation.

      Michael E. Kupferman, MD, MBA has been appointed by Penn State President Neeli Bendapudi and the Penn State Health Board of Directors to serve as Penn State Health’s next chief executive officer (CEO). Kupferman is an experienced healthcare leader and physician executive with over a decade of experience driving transformational change across integrated health systems, academic medical centers and community. Kupferman joins Penn State Health after serving as president of the Banner University Medicine Division and senior vice president of the physician enterprise for Phoenix-based Banner Health, one of the largest health systems in the U.S. Kupferman is a fellowship-trained head and neck cancer surgeon and researcher who completed his clinical and research fellowships at MD Anderson. He earned his bachelor’s in political science and biology from Yeshiva University and his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He completed his surgery internship and otolaryngology-head and neck surgery residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a master’s in business administration from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. He is board-certified in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery.

The Gold Seal demonstrates continuous compliance with the commission’s performance standards and highlights Lancaster Medical Center’s exceptional efforts to foster better outcomes by meeting the specialized needs of patients receiving knee and hip replacements.
