Celebrating International Women's Month! Honoring Dame Cicely Saunders. In the 1950’s those at the end of life were pushed aside and treated poorly. Dame Saunders realized that if she could control a person’s pain it would reduce the patient’s pain and anxiety. She was a pioneer of using morphine for pain control. In 1967 she opened St. Christopher’s Hospice in London. St. Christopher’s Hospice is still open today.
