January is made for resolutions, manifestations….and National Mentoring Month! It’s a great time to explore new ideas for personal and professional development. At Citizens, mentorship comes in many forms, all fostering a strong connection to help you learn new skills or sharpen existing ones. Lisa M., our New York Retail Banking Director, has advice to make mentorship happen for you: 1. If the answer to any of the below questions is yes, then finding a mentor could be right for you. Do you want to: • Make a career change? • Improve your leadership skills? • Broaden your exposure to another business line? • Work on feedback? 2. Go out and meet people. Share your intentions with your manager so they can support you. See if your company has Business/Employee Resource Groups. Take advantage of any learning and development programming your company has to offer. The more exposure you have to colleagues across the organization, the easier it will be to find someone who has the experience that matches where you’d like to grow. 3. Make the ask. When you find a possible mentor, be specific about your expectations. Talk about why you think that person would make an ideal mentor to you, and what your engagement model would look like together - do you meet in person? On the phone? Offer what you think the mentor can get out of the relationship, too. After all, these relationships are intended to be mutually beneficial! Learn more about Lisa’s mentorship experience and lessons below.

Being good citizens is at the heart of who we are and, this Giving Tuesday, we're ready to make a difference. Today and every day, we're proud to offer a matching gift program where we match colleagues’ charitable donations up to $1,000 annually. A huge part of our Credo is about leveraging our time, talent and resources to strengthen our communities, all in an effort to make a true difference.
During this season of giving, as we gather with family and friends to celebrate the holidays, we wanted to reflect on our commitment to our communities. Our commitment to giving back is rooted in the belief that when people and communities succeed, we all thrive. Colleagues across Citizens build partnerships to develop neighborhoods, transform lives and stimulate economic renewal. Learn more below.

When we collaborate, we're able to create something meaningful! Two of our Business Resource Groups (BRGs) recently joined forces to make a lasting difference. The Caring for Citizens and Veterans BRGs partnered with Habitat for Humanity’s Operation Playhouse program to build a playhouse from the ground up for a local veteran family. Citizens BRGs play a critical role in fostering our culture of inclusion, while providing colleagues with opportunities to connect around shared experiences and make a difference in the communities we live and serve.
