June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada, a time for Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. As a global organization, our Diversity & Inclusion team’s programming for the month is focused on empowering all employees with education, awareness, and cultural understanding in order to better understand lived experiences and address systemic barriers that exist for Indigenous peoples. This includes a virtual workshop led by Rebecca Lazarenko and Christa Engel from CultureAlly, which took place on June 21, National Indigenous Peoples Day. The session kicked off with retellings and an overview of Indigenous history from a Canadian perspective. The lessons shared were informative and tactical, including a deep dive into how we can be more inclusive in our individual actions, how we can be better and more authentic allies and celebrate where Indigenous communities are thriving in the present day. Learning about Indigenous culture not only allows us to learn new things about history, it shapes how we think about Canada and the ancestral and unceded territories we occupy and live on—and allows us to understand the world and people around us. Comment below to share what you’ve learned this Indigenous History Month.
This month, we partnered with local Toronto multidisciplinary artist Moya Garrison-Msingwana, also known as GANGBOX, to create a unique, immersive public art installation that celebrates community, craftsmanship and sustainability. Stitched in Ages embodies our HUMANATURE purpose to keep the planet cold and the people on it warm. Now on display at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre until June 26, the large-scale installation consists of five 3-D figures, made of upcycled Canada Goose fabrics and materials. It’s a physical, artistic representation of our purpose in action—and represents the importance of designing for a lifetime, not just a season. “I hope the installation will help spark conversations around the importance of protecting our environment and the intersection of creativity, community and sustainability,” says Moya.
In celebration of #PrideMonth, we welcomed writer, activist and author Cicely Belle Blain into our office to lead a virtual discussion with our global team. Cicely spoke about the lived experiences of queer folks in society and Pride as a celebration that includes many identities. Moderated by Jada C., our Diversity & Inclusion Specialist, the question-and-answer portion of the event touched on intersectionality in the queer community, activism and creating inclusive spaces for queer folks in homogenous environments. As #PrideMonth continues, so will our programming to honour the many diverse groups of people that belong to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in Canada and around the world—as well as their countless achievements and contributions to history. At Canada Goose, Diversity & Inclusion is something we are committed to continuously advancing and embedding in all that we do. We are passionate about building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working environment and look forward to sharing more of our internal initiatives as we continue to bring this commitment to life, all year long. Happy Pride!

Huge congratulations to our Goose Person Aldo Kane, who summited Mount Everest on May 16th at 9:00AM. An extraordinary #LiveInTheOpen achievement from a lifetime of experiences. Resilience, strength, power of mind, patience, courage and the overwhelming support from a diligent team made it all possible. After facing extreme weather conditions Aldo and his Sherpa, Pasang Dorjee kept pushing through to finally reach the top of the world at an altitude of 8,848m. Aldo Kane, your immense passion and curiosity for exploring the outdoors is a true inspiration for us all; we are proud to have you as part of our Goose family. We can’t wait to see what you do next!
At Canada Goose, we’re dedicated to making an impact to keep the planet cold and the people on it warm. We’re thrilled to be recognized for this work as the Positive Luxury 2023 Social Innovator of the Year. The Positive Luxury awards recognize luxury organizations driving change—companies that go beyond compliance and shape a more sustainable future for us all. The breadth of the initiatives within our HUMANATURE sustainability strategy and our ability to have a wider impact across the luxury industry were just two of the reasons for this year’s award. Congratulations to our fellow winners and industry leaders!
"This season's openings across the U.S. are an invitation to experience our beloved brand, powerful product, and exceptional experience first-hand. They offer an opportunity to own a piece of the luxury of Canada," said Carrie Baker, president of Canada Goose. "Each of these cities is iconic in their own right and are the perfect locations to help us reach new heights and audiences."
For #IWD2023 today, I had the privilege of hosting a Fireside Chat for Canada Goose employees with feature film writer & director, Sally El-Hosaini. We discussed her latest film, “The Swimmers”, a powerful true story about two sisters from Syria who flee their war-torn home in Damascus to pursue a dream of competing in the Rio Olympic Games. We also chatted about Sally’s experience as a woman in the film industry, the preconceived notions of her role when walking into a room and the obstacles she has faced in getting her projects off the ground. We were left inspired by her resilience and unwavering commitment to telling important stories authentically without compromise. Today and every day, I feel fortunate to be able to collaborate with an array of incredibly talented women. They are each a constant reminder of what women are capable of and what we lose when they don’t have equitable rights and opportunities. #embraceequity #internationalwomensday2023
