I’m deeply sorry that you felt there was a lack of sympathy during this layoff. As if losing your job wasn’t hard enough, to have it happen without feeling that connection with leadership must have made it even worse. Executing the reduction in headcount in 2019 was undoubtedly the most difficult thing I have had to do in my career. At the time, we grew our team too fast, and needed to change course to operate the business more efficiently to continue to achieve our mission. All of that was my fault. Navigating these conversations was a first for me, and doing it over Zoom with a distributed team made it even harder. On the other side, our team has worked incredibly hard to ensure that the equity and effort of all WorkStep employees (past and present) will yield outsized value. Now that we’re fortunate to be in a place where we’re profitable and again growing the team quickly, if there is interest on your end, I would be more than happy to see if there is an opportunity for you at WorkStep. We still have a close-knit team with incredible work ethic. Wishing you all the best in whatever came next for you after your time at WorkStep. Thank you for your contributions. -Dan

Pros

-Transparency from the leadership team -Opportunities to grow and develop -Incredible managers -Autonomy The team and opportunities at WorkStep are the biggest pros. Tops down the entire management team is committed to helping people reach their full potential. In addition, the entire team empowers others to do what needs to be done to excel in a role

Cons

The chief downsides are related to the dynamic nature of a startup. While company goals are well structured and provide consistency across the organisation. The small size of the team requires some functions to pivot focus frequently.

Pros

Incredible product that provides meaningful value to big name customers (including 15 of the Fortune 500). Clearly defined value proposition and target market for both short and long term with huge potential for growth. Track record of sales team meeting or exceeding quota. Close knit team who are smart, focused and passionate about the customers and WorkStep. Remote First - Setup for remote workforce and asynchronous communication Transparent leadership with emphasis on feedback, professional growth and development

Cons

WorkStep is a startup (expect fast moving change) and a small, distributed team. If you need a lot of structure and resources that a bigger company offers, then this probably isn't for you.
