Job is NOT what it seems

Pros

Work from home, regular schedule, no weekends.

Cons

Job title was “nutrition specialist,” but guess how many people I advised on nutrition: NONE. I went through lists of people every day, trying to sell programs to “luke-warm” leads. The job was more of a call center/sales situation. Selling programs was also difficult, as the shipping time on a program was upwards of 6 weeks after purchase (if they were lucky), if they paid for the program in full. There were a lot of unanswered questions among employees about where product was, when it was shipping, etc. There were also instances where paychecks were late. I received no pay stubs for the duration that I worked there, and had to email the CEO daily in order to receive them once my employment had ended. This is NOT a company with good business practices, and does not have the best interest of its staff or it’s nutritional clients in mind. I would HIGHLY SUGGEST doing research on the owner and previous companies before joining this one.

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback. As you know, all nutrition coaches are responsible for managing a pool of active nutrition clients and when appropriate, extending their programs until those clients achieve their goals. The fact that you provided "NONE" of your assigned clients with nutrition advice is of course a primary reason why you were unable to meet the basic performance standards for your position, which by necessity involves consulting with clients on their compliance with our plans. In order to give you as much chance as possible to succeed, your tenure was extended for many months beyond the 3-month probationary period, in spite of your consistent failure to meet minimum performance standards. You of course had every opportunity to understand the requirements of the position, including the detailed booklet outlining job duties and expectations provided to you before you were hired, and the upfront multi-week training when all responsibilities are reviewed in detail and practiced. We wish you the best of luck in finding a position that is a better suited for you.

Pros

Work from home in pajamas

Cons

This company only cared about one thing while I was working there: money. While this is necessary for a business, treating employees with respect and creating a company with a purpose other than solely making money is important as well. They told me I was not a "good fit" for their company, and boy, were they RIGHT! I am so happy to not be working here anymore as now I have found a job using my nutrition degree for a company that truly cares about others. You would be a great fit for this company if: you are a work horse, making a company money is your #1 driver, you don't need a work life balance, you don't mind having your personal character attacked, and you don't mind being micromanaged! In a matter of two months, 9 people left the company (and it's not a large employee base), so that should speak volumes. They will probably try to write back to this review in a demeaning manner, but that's okay! I just wanted to do my due diligence in letting others with a passion for nutrition have a warning of what could come if you work here!

Thank you for your feedback. As you know and were made aware of during the recruitment process/interviews and in your written offer, the initial training period for staff who do both enrollment and coaching is focused on sales, and that training lasts a number of months (after completing classroom training). Once someone has developed their skills in this area, they begin to coach their member pool while also being trained on coaching/support. As enrollment is a core component of the position, it is necessary to reach a minimum threshold of competence in enrollment in order to be able to continue with next stage of training and proceed to coaching. We are sorry that this was not a fit for your skill set or interests, but do need to note that the structure and progression of training should not in any way have been a surprise as you seem to be suggesting. We know that especially for someone with relatively little work experience it can be difficult to receive performance feedback and be held accountable for results and work quality, and that a basic forty hour work week might seem overwhelming -- but as you are aware, we do not require staff to work beyond normal scheduled shifts. We wish you the best of luck in your new position and hope that you find it a great fit.

Pros

work from home, snack box monthly...

Cons

I wish I had heeded the advice of other glassdoor reviews before taking this position. Let's start from the beginning...training. The CEO offers the training and has no nutritional background. Things he said were outright wrong. They brought a nutrition person on board to do part of the training as well, but it felt that she was simply using the CEO's old power points. The whole 2 or so weeks of training were all over the place. They instituted a new role to save the company a buck by having one person do two jobs (member enrollment and coaching) for the price of one. I understand growth and change is necessary; however, it became very clear that this move was not well thought out. The company barely piloted the position before launching full scale into it. So this meant that the new hires for this new position ended up being the guinea pigs. It was a sales job masked as a nutrition role. You spend your day tied to a desk for sometimes 10-12 hours making phone calls. You are not evaluated on how well you care for your clients but strictly on sales numbers. As for the coaching side of it--no room for growth. You really end up being a glorified hand holder for members spewing out the same things over and over again. I am not even going to get into the holes in the dietary protocol.... When it comes down to it, this company is all about money and less about the well-being of their employees and the clients they serve.

We welcome constructive feedback regarding roles at WeightNot, and we are sorry that a position at WeightNot was not a good fit for you. That said, it is important to correct at least some of your misstatements for the purposes of accuracy. As for training -- the training director at WeightNot is an accomplished, published PhD and professor/researcher at two of the most prestigious university nutrition programs in the U.S., and the training materials for WeightNot were developed over several years and are based entirely on third party scientific research -- it is common for those with undergrad nutrition degrees not to have covered much/most of the advanced material in our training. We have no interest in or gain no benefit from teaching inaccurate information, and we are always interested in improving our curriculum, but are unaware of anything that is "incorrect" with the nutrition science we present, particularly given that we constantly survey literature for new research on all of the topics that we teach. We would certainly welcome any specific items to review should you have any --but your general statements are simply ad hominem/personal attacks without any substance or support. As for our dietary protocols -- WeightNot has served over 20,000 members, refining our nutrition guidelines continuously throughout. We are unaware of any "holes" in our nutrition plans, but again would be happy to hear any specific feedback you may have beyond this general statement. As for your position -- the role that you were in was not designed to save money, (it saves none) but instead to create more continuity between the initial enrollment process and ongoing coaching for members. Staff are scheduled for 8 hour shifts on the days that they work, not 10-12 as you suggest -- and as all staff are remote and log into various systems to conduct their work, we happen to know with certainty that staff do not regularly or frequently work more than their scheduled 8-hour shifts, including trainees/new hires such as yourself. Working from a home office does indeed require that you work at a desk -- the positions at WeightNot are not "work from anywhere" jobs, as is made very clear for all prospective staff in our job descriptions, offer letters, policy manual, training and numerous other documents you received. This expectation is no different than for most other professional jobs at other employers where one is expected to be at a corporate office or other work location -- if like yourself, someone does not want to work at their desk, then a position at WeightNot would not be recommended. As for the coaching role -- you should know that coaches work with a portfolio of members to support their weight loss and health improvement efforts over many months (or even years) -- and undoubtedly some of these members deal with similar issues/questions/challenges as they progress. That said, we do not belittle our members by analogizing them to children as you do in describing the coaching process; we are in helping roles that we truly enjoy, and an attitude of superiority or disdain as you have expressed toward our members is simply not tolerated at WeightNot, and certainly reflects an extremely poor fit with our values and culture. We hope that you find a position that is better suited to your skills and perspective.
