Right place, right time

Pros

Great company to work for, and great culture with tons of smart people to work through interesting problems. Diverse range of engineering talent, from Math nerds kicking butt on project Euler, to tangoers, and everything in between. The people here are not just smart, but INTERESTING too. As a company the product seems to be in the right place at the right time: tons of traction with customers, lots of growth potential, and a great product roadmap ahead.

Cons

Still the occasional communication issue, but things are getting better.

Pros

Smart employees, cool product, and a nice office. I was an early stage employee at Kontagent, back when Kontagent was less than 30 people and had some great things going for it. These were some of the smartest, most talented people I had ever met working on a product that was truly game changing. Since I was there in the beginning, I've seen the ups, downs, lay offs (there have been several rounds of them, the last few being only months apart ), and everything in between. It was genuinely a great place with a nice culture for a while. On a good note, Josh does seem to be a genuinely good guy, and cares for his employees.

Cons

Unfortunately, the management team really doesn't know what they are doing. All the original employees have left for greener pastures, and of the ones that are left, the longest tenured one just hit their 2 year mark. Given that this company actually formed in 2007, that is not a good sign. Teams were rife with politics (poor hiring decisions made by poorer managers, who have since left the company but not before doing the damage). Executive management used to be transparent, but not anymore. That merger with Playhaven? Yep, no one knew about it, and the whole time management was going on about a strategic direction that was the complete opposite. Minimal career progression. Hard work used to be rewarded, but not anymore. Salaries are frozen, no bonuses (ever), minimal stock options, and they even cut back on lunch. When cutting back on food happens, you know things are not looking well.

Pros

- great people with the exception of the very upper management

Cons

- mass layoffs every few years - no job security - all the perks in the world mean nothing if you can lose your job at any time - outside of core team everyone else is expendable - company has no idea what it's doing or where it's going - rather than giving customers what they want, company instead ops for making overcomplicated features that no one needs
