Pros

Some great people to work with.

Cons

The company was once a great place to work, but recent changes in senior management have drastically altered the culture for the worse. The commercial side of the business has been severely impacted, with many talented individuals being pushed out or removed entirely. There is no clear evidence that these actions were necessary or have benefited the business. Instead, it feels like an attempt to silence those who challenge or offer ideas that don’t align with the top leadership's vision. Favouritism is increasingly apparent, with resources and opportunities going to individuals who are more concerned with self-promotion than delivering genuine business value. These favoured few haven’t demonstrated that they have the right ideas or the ability to implement initiatives that drive success. Meanwhile, talented employees with a proven track record of delivering results are being sidelined, leading to a decline in morale and, ultimately, damaging the business. There's also a significant lack of transparency, honesty, and respect from the Executive Committee. Communication often feels overly optimistic and disconnected from reality. The high rate of employee turnover is being glossed over, but those who leave share their experiences, and it's clear that there’s a deeper cultural issue at play. It’s disappointing to see the company focusing on managing the narrative rather than addressing the core problems. It’s a sad situation for what was once a great place to work.

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback. We’re glad you’ve had the opportunity to work with great colleagues, as our team is a huge part of what makes Superscript special. We recognise that any change can feel unsettling, and we understand that adjustments to leadership and strategy may not align with everyone’s perspective. Our intention has always been to make decisions that position the company for long-term success, and we work hard to support employees through any change. That said, we acknowledge that we may not always get it right, and your feedback highlights areas where we could improve. Fostering an environment where ideas and constructive feedback are welcomed is crucial, and our speaking-up policy and open-door leadership approach are in place to ensure every voice is heard. Regarding favouritism, we strive to ensure opportunities and resources are distributed based on merit and business needs. Recognising and advancing talent across all teams is something we continually review to ensure fairness and alignment with our goals. We have processes in place to ensure fairness and merit-based decision-making, however, we take on board that these might not always be clear in every circumstance and we’ll endeavour to improve transparency around our processes. Transparency is core to our communication efforts, and we aim to keep everyone informed through weekly updates, quarterly strategic game plans and open discussions about progress toward goals. We acknowledge concerns about employee turnover. While our attrition rate remains below the industry average, we’re committed to building a culture that retains and nurtures talent. Your feedback is invaluable as we work to address these challenges and maintain a supportive, inclusive workplace.

Pros

Some really fantastic people - smart, kind & full of energy.

Cons

A recent leadership and board hire, from a well known multinational, has brought a tidal wave of politics, destroyed the culture, and has left people disillusioned and untrusting of him and the business. Sadly, he does not treat employees with any respect or time, and relies on regular company-wide slack messages to 'inspire' and 'uplift.' It's not what leadership looks like, and Superscript is no longer a nice place to work. It's amazing how much negative impact one person can have. A lot of people will be leaving soon, and I'd really urge people interviewing for roles at Superscript to do their due diligence on whether Superscript has the leadership or financial strength

Fiscally irresponsible organisation

Pros

Great startup company with fun office culture, environment and the people in the office are great, but like all startups this comes at a risky cost...

Cons

Consider your options carefully before considering employment here. Superscript has demonstrated fiscal irresponsibility, squandering investor funds to maintain the appearance of a fun and trendy workplace, albeit at the expense of investor money. Despite portraying a facade of financial stability to employees and investing substantial amounts in company events, the reality is starkly different. The company's burn rate was four times higher than it should have been, leading to a significant workforce reduction as mandated by investors seeking cost-cutting measures. While the people within the organization are commendable, the lack of responsibility exhibited by the senior management team towards their employees renders job security at Superscript a risky proposition. Despite the positive aspects of the workplace culture, the financial decisions and subsequent impact on job stability warrant serious consideration before committing to employment with this company.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review about Superscript. We’re happy to hear your feedback that Superscript is a dynamic and engaging workplace with great people. We note the concerns you’ve raised about transparency and fiscal responsibility. We make a big effort to foster a culture of transparency from top to bottom, which manifests itself in the form of weekly company all-hands, Q&As with the leadership team and regular engagement surveys. We value your feedback on this and recognise there is more to do in this regard. As with many startups and scale-ups, we are partly funded by investors and work closely with them. We take job security very seriously, like many companies we restructured the business recently to re-focus on our big priorities and put us in a better position to capitalise on future opportunities. This is part of the natural evolution of a scale-up at our current stage of growth, with aspirations to be a leading global SME insurance provider. We encourage you to reach out to a member of the ExCo or a member of the People Team to discuss your concerns in more detail. All feedback is imperative to ensuring that we remain a dynamic workplace with its people at the forefront of our company. All the best, Liv
