Pros

Everyone who I have worked with at the company so far is straightforward and kind. I appreciate that they take the time to provide positive feedback when you do something well, that can be hard to find in management. This job is very flexible. You can basically work whenever and wherever you want as long as you do your job well and work the amount of hours they hired you to work. I never feel pressure to work too many hours, they seem to respect work/life balance. I feel that the pay is generous.

Cons

These are not cons for me but I know they could be for other people: Employees are basically independent contractors, which is great because you get paid for every minute you work, but it also does not fit the typical salaried structure i.e. no paid time off, no health insurance if you rely on that The work is 100% remote, there is no office. I love this but I know some people like to get out of the house to work and see their co-workers in person.

Pros

You'll end up learning skills that you didn't know would be necessary for your job description.

Cons

The problem with this company is top down. The boss is a narcissist and a gaslighter. He likes to take all credits when things go well and blame people working for him when things don't. In reality probably everyone in the company is smarter than him, but he wouldn't acknowledge it. His management is a mess. This company puts everyone on contract even though people do full-time work. On top of that, this company requires you to install a tracking software on your personal computer (no company equipment because you are a "contractor") which keeps track of your keyboard and mouse activity and takes screenshots periodically, and you are only paid for the duration that you are active. This is just unrealistic for an office job because no one should be on the keyboard typing all the time. If you are offered an hourly rate, multiply it by 0.5 before comparing to other jobs.

I’m sorry to hear you were dissatisfied at SelfDecode. I see you have not worked here in a long time, as the last US-based software developer left more than 3 years ago. I will address a few inaccuracies: Our policy for quite a while now is that Hubstaff screenshots are only used in the first 3 months during the trial period. In addition, we no longer pay workers an hourly rate unless they are part-time. Everyone who works full-time is paid a fixed rate, every 2 weeks. In the past, even when used Hubstaff regularly and paid by the hour, we allowed workers to include their inactive time if they were working. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors.
