Pros

Working independently .Every day is a new experience. Compensation is okay($250 per sea day with benefits included + $60 meal per diem if on land and $0.48 per km for travel.). Even during peak busy season company will try to work with employees to schedule time-off for important life events.

Cons

Down time. Company had contract with federal Government for coverage of large offshore vessels for 30 years leading up to 2013. However , this contract was awarded to another contractor (politics). So now work is mainly with the inshore fishing fleet from April to September.
