Pros

Beautiful environment to work in.

Cons

People are nice, however, they go behind your back and report to management.

Pros

The best part of this job was that they give employees summer hours starting memorial day weekend so employees get one day a week (department dependent) that is a half day. Typically it’s a Friday but depends on your department.

Cons

Low pay with minimal raises (Mine was a whopping 2.5%). Employees are always asked to take on the workload of other employees who have either switched departments, or left the company all together. I know someone who was stuck doing this for almost 4 months with no bonus, no raise, no motivation, and hardly any encouragement. Training is dismal at best, it’s usually a current employee who has already started their new role who is now responsible for training you. Talked about overworked and stressed. For Thanksgiving employees got a ~15~ dollar check in the mail as a ‘bonus’. The company sent out a mass internal email acting like this was god’s gift as well. Are you kidding me? My boss would constantly call me at random with no warning and then keep me on the phone for 30+ minutes because she was doing dishes or talking with her husband (in the middle of our call) or her kid was fussy in the middle of our work call so I would constantly get told to “hold on” and would just have to sit there and wait for almost 10 minutes sometimes for her to get back to our call like I didn’t have things I was trying to get done.

Pros

- The opportunity to work in the publishing industry without having to move east - Many people in the San Diego office are very nice - Hybrid work schedule

Cons

- Management is out of touch, cliquey, and doesn't offer employees trust and respect. Salaried employees' keycard scans into the building are monitored, problematic behavior is not addressed, and the SD office has minimal IT and HR support. - Different teams are treated much differently across the company as far as work/life flexibility, promotions, etc and there is not a cohesive culture. - Little to no upward mobility. Annual reviews and raises are predetermined rather than reflective of actual contributions, new skills, or workload. - HR contact is the daughter-in-law of the CEO. - Compensation is on the lower side.
