Pros

Fundamental aspects of the job

Cons

Everything else. These poor reviews are not false or exaggerated, and if the QAS didn't foster a culture of fear and silencing employees from speaking out, there would be even more. The QAS seems to get away with extremely poor treatment and regard for their staff. Bullying is rife, as is corrupt conduct within the management chain. It is widespread and deep-seeded, and it starts at the top. This all has a flow-on effect which severely diminishes workplace culture and productivity, and ultimately, affects patient outcomes.

Needs new leadership

Pros

The only reason to work at QAS is the pay. I’d like to say it is a great place to help patients, but working in administration, it is not possible to contribute to any service improvements.

Cons

Boys club in leadership. Corporate admin staff are despised. People good at talking the ‘talk’ and saying what they want to hear are promoted, despite having no substance. Long term admin staff have given up and stay for the pay and lack of accountability. Don’t ever try to suggest improvements or speak up about any issue, no matter how small, as your career will be limited or cut short.

Pros

Decent pay, good overtime rates when you can get it, and the actual job itself and all that entails

Cons

A venomous culture of deception and manipulation. You can become an OIC after completing a 6 month graduate program and be an OS a year later. Bullying, harrassment and unprofessional behaviours are rewarded. Just goes to show if your in bed with OHS managers, the union, priority one and middle/upper management, you can climb that ladder and destroy whomever you chose. There is no equal opportunity, only corruption, manipulation and favoritism to make it appear otherwise on paper. Shifts are long with alot of ramping, shifts without breaks, and disrespectful behaviour from public, QAS staff and hospitals. If you speak up about anything, your ostracised, career blocked, and ultimately be bullied out of a job.
