Pros

Reasonable salary and nice coworkers.

Cons

These cons only apply for the Sales and Marketing Division of OCS Ireland. I was hired as a Sales Coordinator/Junior Bid Writer at their head office in Santry. During my first interview, I was essentially ghosted. Only to receive a call from the Sales and Strategy Director almost a year later offering me a job as a Sales Coordinator (more to note on this below). In hindsight, I should’ve trusted my gut, the lack of communication about my interview was disheartening and proved to be a major problem for the Sales team. Starting off, I believe this role was completely made up by the Sales and Strategy Director to try find cohesiveness and a solution to their fragmented communication and workload. Before I joined, the team were discussing how to improve their communication. They decided to hire a new person to alleviate stress, which is where I received a call. I found out later, this call, was on loudspeaker to the entire team without my knowledge. I found this completely unprofessional and distasteful. Regardless, the strong communication and cohesiveness never came to fruition as the Sales and Strategy Director continued to lack communication with our team and I was quickly “promoted” to Junior Bid Writer to help our team as the workload continued to grow. As a team, we heavily relied on effective communication with the Sales and Strategy Director which was barely received and as a result, this really put a strain on the sales team. Our Bid Manager was always delayed, stressed, passive aggressive and ultimately hard to work with since she was never sure of the required guidance from the Director. My Bid Manager was also given a promotion a couple of months into my role, which was intended to help further organise the team. This only made our Bid Manager more stressed, agitated and frustrated and fragmented the only strong communication we had to begin with. My “training” and probation reviews were also heavily delayed and eventually the sales teams only had delayed communication with our Director through our overworked, stressed and passive aggressive Bid Manager. There wasn’t a great work-life balance, which became mentally draining due to the heavy workload and consistently delayed communication. Because of my experience, I genuinely wouldn’t recommend anyone to join this team.

Cons

The company I worked for was unfortunately acquired by OCS, and throughout the process there was a significant lack of communication, clarity and professionalism, which left employees feeling uncertain and anxious about their future. OCS initially committed to holding a Q&A session and townhall presentation shortly after the buyout was confirmed; however, these did not take place, but did not leave anyone surprised and reconfirmed their unprofessional manner. Over a short period of just three months, OCS SLT removed the highly respected EXEC team, along with several other senior roles, which had a noticeable impact on morale across the business. When I made the decision to resign due to concerns around how the transition was being managed, how they had treated other colleagues in the business and because their approach and behaviour since the buyout did not align with my values, I shared my feedback and my priorities for the team I was leaving behind with OCS senior management in various “handover”’meetings. Unfortunately, I did not feel there was an appropriate level of care or empathy in response to those concerns, which was disappointing given they state TRUE values - none of which they demonstrated to date. It was difficult to see a company I once considered the best I had worked for change so significantly in such a short space of time, particularly in relation to leadership decisions and the overall handling of the transition, especially when employees were visibly upset during the transition, OCS senior management were cold, unfeeling and did not check in with employees to see how they were depsite seeing visible breakdowns. In the short time I unfortunately worked under OCS, the experience was one of the worst in my career to date, and I would not recommend them as an employer to anyone. Good luck to anyone in this position. My advice would be to start looking for another opportunity as soon as possible, as there is little regard for employees as individuals or for the business and reputation that has been built over the years.
