I worked at Medicago full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Plenty of work to do for a busy ambitious professional. You also get rewarded with more work when you demonstrate competency and capacity (but that’s about all you’ll get). Growth in experience possible with the right leadership in front of you. Innovative technology which enlarges the therapeutic antigen expression landscape of Biotech manufacturing.

    Cons

Understaffed or incorrectly staffed. Unnecessary re-work and compliance gaps resulting from past poor decision-making, poor planning/PM, poor prioritization, and rudderless political visions/shenanigans at the C-suite level. Don’t look for Senior Leadership growth experience here.

First product launch is effectively a me too vaccine (albeit a different and more adaptable expression platform) but is struggling to show therapeutic attributes that are superior to existing marketed products.

    Advice to Management

None. Advice was professionally and respectfully shared numerous times with 6 supervisors (and peripheral influencers) over nearly 8 years. Despite this futile effort on the part of many good mid-level managers, new silos and unnecessary adversarial circumstances were constantly created between the sites in US and Canada with every new C-suite/VP level leader who showed up and pushed yet another organizational development initiative or whim which usually entailed politely (or not) trashing the existing efforts and achievements of long-time employees and hiring all their unemployed friends to come in and second guess work that had already been correctly assessed numerous times. All this for the delusional & obsessive want of hearing a different (easier) less costly and time consuming answer to which there was often none. With all the time spent arrogantly and exhaustively pursuing these ridiculous personal leadership vanities and C-suite games, the original (and proper) scope of identified GMP and organizational development work could have been completed 3 times over.

I worked at Medicago full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Great place to learn biopharmaceutical industry. Product is game changer in vaccine industry.

    Cons

Favorite employees are regularly promoted. If you are not a favorite don’t expect to get anywhere despite excellent reviews by manager. Opportunities for improvement are ignored for pet projects. Communication issues between sites still exist.

    Advice to Management

You will keep bleeding people if you don’t appreciate all your employees

I worked at Medicago full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Experience rich environment which is good for resume building in a small company dynamic. Social work experience can be good.

    Cons

Poor behavioral examples and decision making from Executive & Corporate leadership. Very poor HR representation for the US Staff. Corporate employees are basically allowed to unilaterally over-rule and/or run over experienced staff at US site.

    Advice to Management

Listen to and acknowledge the experienced resources that you have at both sites. Curb the ridiculous passive aggressive politics and poor decision making that are creating a toxic work environment, wasting good opportunities, killing morale (running off good employees), and jeopardizing Medicago's chances of success at a critical time in the company lifecycle.

    Pros

hours and work environment are handy

    Cons

kindergarten phone screen, I interviewed three times over the phone with this same person who sounds like they have an attitude.

    Advice to Management

You need to change the way you ask the same canned questions to people over and over again. Its very unprofessional. You have passed up many qualified individuals by doing this. May be alright if someone has no experience

    I worked at Medicago full-time

    Pros

Great people, excellent place to learn, opportunity to wear many hats.

    Cons

Maybe not a con, but there are communication challenges between the 2 locations. Improvement has been made over time but still some work left to do.

    Advice to Management

Set more realistic timelines and take the time to do things right the first time.
