Pros

Coworkers were very kind and helpful. Made some great bonds there and learned a lot about color theory.

Cons

Refuses to let you post your cosmetology license in public view (illegal). They struggled to even locate mine when I quit. Middle and upper management was awful. Reported someone to hr and was told to “try and see it from their perspective”. Had time off approved one day and randomly unapproved the next. Wanted 4 weeks notice on time off but wouldn’t approve it till sometimes the day before. Not to mention an all over lack of communication. It seemed like a great place to start as a new stylist but random schedule changes inability to schedule your self any time off and just rude management will burn you out in months.

Pros

Pay is decent but rigged with doubled goals once bonus eligible making it conveniently inachievable once they have to pay. Good CEO but has no real idea what’s happening in color bars or with upper leaders.

Cons

Great clips of color. Crazy turnover, leaders expected to work 24/7, always on call, even on vacation. Sick pay can’t ever be used because its not provided until the end of the year when there is blackout periods. Upper leadership at field VP level is control freak dictatorship. Everyone is terrified and they are really running the business not the nice CEO who is the face of values and culture that don’t exist. Corporate makes everything work for them and hard for salons. All leaders are old Ulta employees who were fired. They complain about how awful Ulta was and only looked at numbers number numbers not people but then that is exactly same culture they brought here. Just hit number and work constantly. Double booked over booked told not eat lunch or just shove a bite in between guests booked very 30 minutes on the dot. Just work till you drop. Expected to report money made every hour while taking guests and managing. And have to add up all sales with calculator by hand. They can’t hire people because the reputation is already bad for working here.

Pros

-My immediate team is full of incredible people. -The products are great if you buy directly from the company or from a store. -Benefits and compensation are decent (especially if you negotiate).

Cons

-Constant layoffs in small to medium numbers framed as "restructures" (at least 6 in the last 18 months). The positions eliminated often do not make sense and are frequently backfilled by hiring someone with a slightly different title to get around rehiring regulations. -Leadership says they live the company's values, but there is constant backstabbing, gossip, and politicking going on. -Goals are consistently forecasted incorrectly and leadership demands everyone sacrifices work/life balance to close gaps. Any sort of boundary setting is treated punitively. -The loudest voice in the room gets listened to (especially if they are someone who ingratiates themselves to senior leadership) regardless of whether or not they have experience and knowledge. -Several times, my team has been asked to violate industry laws, even when the requestor knows it would be a violation. -For a late-stage startup that frequently pivots and states initiatives that don't perform well are learning opportunities, there is a lot of blame, finger-pointing, and punishment handed out. -Leadership touts the company's inclusivity, specifically with the percentage of women and BIPOC employed, but there are no BIPOC in senior leadership and 2 of the 3 highest position in marketing are men.
