Pros

The Launchcode office is incredible. The team is knowledgeable and there's always something new or interesting being built. All the pieces are there to create a culture that values innovation and individual expertise. The compensation and benefits were good given the competitiveness of the industry. There did seem to be though and attention given to making it a fun and rewarding work environment.

Cons

The company was completely mismanaged and the turnover was extremely high. Every project was short staffed and the expectation was the devs should make up for it by working unpaid evenings and weekends. While there are lots of cool things around the office, such as a squash court and arcade cabinets, unless you were a member of senior management you were discouraged from using them as every project was in jeopardy. They're mostly just used as a means of luring in new hires with the impression of a hip and fancy office. The companies values are clearly written on the wall but they became more of an inside joke among staff as all of them were routinely broken by senior management in order to make up for leadership deficiencies or to save time or money. I've never felt more relieved handing in my notice anywhere. And within 6 months, every dev that I worked with there had been fired, burned out, or left of their own accord.

Pros

Where do I start? On the professional side, the first thing that comes to mind is how great Launchcode is at providing the perfect balance of independence and mentorship. They allow their employees the freedom and space to explore and learn independently, but there's always a safety net of support for the inevitable time you hit a brick wall and simply need help. Launchcode also does a fantastic job at always pushing you a little outside your comfort zone, which I believe enables optimal learning and growth. This is great for someone like me who doesn't come from a programming background and is eager to keep learning as I move forward in my career. They really do provide great on the job education that easily replaces the best schools. Something else that stands out is the large variety of work. Launchcode takes on projects from all kinds of industries including finance, education, health care, and oil and gas, which means there's always something new to be working on. Lastly, Launchcode is very diligent at keeping up to date with the latest tech, so the devs are often working on the cutting edge of software development. On the culture side, well, I really can't say enough about the culture. Launchcode really just feels like one big family, and I've only been here for 4 months. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly and I can't overstate the inclusiveness. There's always some prank or joke that keeps everyone smiling and making fun of each other. But beyond that, the culture is one of grit and determination and just plain old getting after it day after day. It's infectious to be around a group of people like that in the best way possible. Oh, and they have a squash court... maybe I should have led with that? The last thing that I'd like to point out is how driven and hungry the management team is. Their hard work and hard fought battles to land massive business opportunities for this company makes me incredibly excited to be working for them. I have the utmost confidence in the fellas "upstairs" that this company is heading in a great direction.

Cons

The only potential con that comes to mind is that LC is still a small company so most positions will require you to wear multiple hats. I personally think this is a positive, but those coming from a company with more structure may not be used to it.
