Pros

Remote work, exciting business, rapid change

It was clear that JDP needed change, and the introduction of new leadership initially felt like a logical step forward. However, it quickly became evident that these changes were not designed with employees in mind—especially those who have dedicated years to building the company from a collection of smaller businesses into the successful organization it is today. The new CEO appeared to come in with a singular focus: preparing the company for sale. This direction brought a sweeping overhaul of leadership, with many executives from Sterling stepping in and replacing long-tenured leaders who had deep institutional knowledge, genuine care, and passion for the business. The focus shifted toward packaging the company for potential buyers, with leadership seemingly positioned to benefit financially, while employees who have invested their careers here are left to navigate the fallout. While some level of reorganization and alignment was necessary, the speed and execution lacked thoughtful consideration and a true understanding of the business’s complexity. Practices from Sterling were applied in a way that didn’t translate well, and in the process, the culture that once defined JDP has been steadily dismantled. One by one, the people and elements that made this company special are being removed. At the same time, there is increasing pressure to find cost savings, despite the company’s continued success. It’s difficult to reconcile these demands with the significant investment in new leadership at much higher compensation levels, alongside questionable spending decisions. Meanwhile, meaningful programs like the Western internship are being cut. Morale has taken a significant hit. It’s become common to hear about colleagues being exited, only to see more “friends” brought in shortly after. The remaining leaders who truly care are doing their best to support employees, but many are stretched thin and facing burnout. There is a growing sense of uncertainty about what comes next. With the current economic climate, many employees feel stuck, which only adds to the frustration and anxiety.

Pros

Remote work forward. At the individual contributor and manager level, there are a lot of great people.

Cons

There are common themes amongst recent reviews: The gutting of experienced leaders for former Sterling employees, a lack of care for employee expertise and knowledge, an overreliance on appeasing the CEO rather than doing what is best for the company or customer. The cutting of DEI&B and intern programs. I find all of these to be accurate and have never felt more like a replaceable cog.

Pros

Remote first Unlimited PTO The tenured individuals are great at what they do, and have made this company successful, anyone would be lucky to work with them. The way these individuals support the work and goals of the organization is admirable and I love they way we all work as a great team.

Cons

Change was needed, but not the type of change that has been and is taking place. New leadership encourages us to 'trust' them, but puts a target on those whom speak up, even for the greater good! Eliminating various initiatives such as DEI&B for example; sent a damaging message to employees who relied on those efforts to feel seen, heard, and safe in the workplace. HR leadership is totally ineffective, unexperienced and overly submissive to executive influence, rather than serving as a credible, independent function. There is little to no meaningful support or guidance provided to employees, and is making it difficult to succeed in their roles. Hiring and promotion decisions seem heavily biased toward individuals connected to the prior leadership team at Sterling, with significant equity being distributed in ways that raise serious concerns about fairness and judgment, unfortunately, there is no one internally to raise these concerns to-they are all friends! Leaderships decision to rescind 25 intern offers just one month before their start dates was appalling. Citing AI as part of the justification only makes the decision more concerning. Early-career software developers are exactly the type of talent that could help an organization adopt and apply emerging AI tools effectively—this move suggests a lack of strategic thinking rather than progress. The stated “two-year plan” cannot come soon enough. While I hope I'm wrong, if this leadership team remains in place, there is a real risk of long-term damage to the organization. The ongoing loss of experienced employees and institutional knowledge is significant and appears to be undervalued or ignored, Benefits could be better
