Great colleagues, dire leadership

Pros

Your colleagues for the most part are good and helpful-really overstretched though.

Cons

CEO is awful, and it feeds from there. I’ve been here two years now and kept telling myself that it’ll improve - but it hasn’t. Arrogant belief that this company will become something but she doesn’t realize that the WORKERS make it NOT you and without them…. CTO spends time telling his team how not to do things rather than setting direction. Pay is average at best, and you will find you have 10 “do it now!” Tasks at any one time. Communication is dire. Most of my colleagues are looking for new roles elsewhere, as am I. I’d advise all the newly acquired compare employees to do the same

Terrible management

Pros

The company promotes employees at a pretty fast rate. Good for title inflation on your resume.

Cons

Management: given it’s a small company, I worked with the executive management quite a bit. The CEO is delusional thinking this company will revolutionize the p&c insurance landscape. Her “vision-setting” is more cringe than anything. Nothing inspirational about her giving overly hyped pep talks. There is also a weird amount of favoritism for Bulgarian employees and women in management. Work process: highly unstructured and lack of streamlining of workflow between teams. The departments don’t really talk to each other and lack of autonomy for middle management causes inefficiency. There’s fire fighting all the time and unnecessary delays. For a company with 150+ employees, you’d expect a more mature process but no. The executive team (CEO/CTO/CPO) are highly incompetent.

Pros

- Great coworkers, I loved the friends & colleagues I made here! - Some leadership was good - Unlimited PTO biggest perk

Cons

- Disorganized & Unstable: My manager changed 5 times in the 2 years I worked here, and each one was less qualified to be managing my position. They tried their best, but were always "promoted" to manage my position from a role that did not lend itself to that, and were not capable of teaching me or supporting me in my role. The company maintains that it is a great place to learn and grow, but I had learn pretty much everything myself since there was never anyone hired to mentor or help me. - I was underpaid my entire time working here. I applied for a raise just before I hit my 1 year, which was several months after my colleague had left and I had been given all the responsibilities of both of our jobs with no effort to replace her or support me. It took 6+ months of being told they were "working on it" to end up getting a 4% raise, note even meeting inflation. This was the only salary adjustment I received the entire time, despite advocating for myself and going through an identical process to my coworkers who had received sufficient raises. I continued to never get support or help and instead have more responsibilities throughout my time at Insurify, and never received proper compensation. - There are no actual D,E&I processes, and the concept is often written off due to the company being run by a woman who is also an immigrant. Leadership being diverse as far as tech CEOs go does not absolve you from making an effort to enforce D,E&I. The number of women working at the company went from a majority to barely any throughout my time there. I could say a thousand things about my time at Insurify, but I will just sum it up with the fact that it made my life increasingly miserable and I started looking for a new job after a year (the job market was just not good enough for me to find one quickly). It was acknowledged to me by several managers/higher-ups (not C-Suite) that I was being isolated, overworked, and underpaid, but nothing ever changed. The vision and empathy of C-Suite is extremely lacking, and they have a significant disconnect from employees despite being a small company and having supposedly "open communication" (doesn't count if you don't listen to/take into account anything employees ask and say). I sincerely hope it improves for the sake of those working for the company.
