I worked at Ingram Micro full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Free Coffee and Snacks.

    Cons

After the acquisition by HNA, focus quickly shifted from working on high-profit projects to projects which showed little or no profitability.
Strategic projects were then cancelled and top performers were shown the door in favour of junior staff who asked fewer questions about unethical decisions.
The workplace became very toxic where senior management routinely threw staff 'under the bus' and fabricated lies to undermine employee success as well as instructing employees to sabotage the work of others.

    Advice to Management

Seek legal advice to weed out potentially illegal and certainly unethical treatment of employees and business partners.
Ingram now has a reputation where I would never want to do business with them.

I worked at Ingram Micro full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Learned some fundamental business + Marketing strategies and operations
    - Great efforts made to motivate people with trips and things...

    Cons

    - New GM lacks ability and willingness to adopt Canadian business culture rather focused on forcing American ideology with the company
    - Most of sales is driven by run rate business - very little to no sale capabilities exist
    - its not about customer loyalty rather steering a deal towards Ingram and hoping to win any renewals
    - Poor direction from the HR dept with very little knowledge of that actual business that takes place

    Advice to Management

Go back to Mark Snider's vision to truly develop your career and make Ingram Micro a success at buying the business.

I worked at Ingram Micro full-time

    Pros

Decent work life balance with many good colleagues willing to help.

    Cons

Targets may be confusing at times.

    Advice to Management

Reward employees by setting targets that are in line with what their accounts are capable of doing. If you actually take the time to understand what is going on vs a blanket approach, you'll be able to identify who is doing a good job and who is not.

I worked at Ingram Micro full-time

    Pros

Access to new technology and main players in the technology space.

    Cons

Big company politics. Contradiction of business strategy.

    Advice to Management

Continue focusing on items that make you a value added distributor.

Need to re-evaluate how you reward your sales team. Too many new hires out of university may be cheap, but you lose a lot of intellectual capital that would be helpful to grow the company.
