It is hard to describe how miserable and depressed I became while working at IMMI. The owners of the company are devout evangelical Christians, and give promotions to friends and family members, whether they are qualified or not. The owners act like they are perfect and treat Upper Level Management (friends and family) like they are also perfect. This is in stark contrast to how employees are treated, which can be cold and unfair. For instance, my manager once told me that "my job was to make him look good". That was not true, because my job was to develop robust products that could save children's lives. The wages paid to engineers at IMMI are below average. The opportunities for promotion are minimal, unless you are a close friend or family member. Soon after I started working there, I sensed a cultural 'underflow' that is difficult to describe, except to say that it is quite similar to the Mafia in that if you cross someone close to the family, watch out. Employees are definitely not free to speak their minds, but will most likely be punished for doing so.

If you are not Christian, you do not fit into the business model of the company and it is difficult to move up. Those that are active in their churches and outspoken about their beliers seem to be considered for promotions over those that aren't. The company makes it clear that they are a conservative Christian company as Fox news is the only channel allowed on the tv. (you can be written up for changing the channel). I don't think I should know the political beliefs of the owners and everyone else in the lunch room. Individuals regularly break out into political arguments during lunch and break time. This is likely because all they are allowed to watch is Fox. Political figures pictures are often posted on the outside of someone’s cubicle or as their computer background. The year leading up to the election was particularly full of these pictures. A few years ago, there was debate in the country about gay marriage. Chick-Fil-A publicly stated they were against gay marriage. That day, the Company ordered Chick-Fil-A for the entire company. They allowed an evangelical Christian group to be in the break area during lunch for those that wanted to discuss religion with them (not a big deal for a Christian company). However, the group actively engaged people who did not approach their table asking "if they had accepted Jesus Christ into their lives" and attempted to convert them. Promotions are almost always given to friends or family members of those in upper management. A few instances of that would be acceptable if those individuals were qualified for the positions they were given. Individuals that are typically promoted are the fake it till you make it type, generally full of it, and tend to act highly confident about their decisions even if they are based on no knowledge. They then throw their authority around when you question those decisions. There is a major disconnect between corporate and production. Communication is severely lacking and problems arise regularly because of it. Production individuals are all paid the same range of hourly wage regardless of the difficulty of the task being performed. They claim the difference is made up by giving what are called production bonuses if they meet their efficiency goals. These goals are difficult or impossible to achieve in many cases. More difficult jobs earn a higher bonus if the goal is met. The higher the bonus the more difficult it is to meet your goal. Resulting in the person doing the simplest job earning more money than the ones doing the most difficult tasks. This leads to intentionally cutting corners and ignoring mistakes in order to try to get the extra money. No repercussions for rejections from the customer due to poor quality. Corporate executive team likes to control too much. They tend to bottleneck decisions into their group making it difficult and often extremely slow to make changes and get decisions approved. It’s a highly bureaucratic environment. Any one other than the executive team and engineering is paid well below average for the state. They used to have a profit share program which helped make up for some of the low salaries. They then moved the goal post that would allow for profit sharing the year they bought themselves a private jet effectively ending the profit share program for the rest of the time I worked there. High frequency of employee turnover rate and restructuring of management. They will work you long hours. Manufacturing should expect 10-14 hour days during peek months as well as saturdays. Salaried individuals are expected to stay as long as it takes to do their job for the day resulting in many people staying after dark or working at home. They do inventory when business begins slowing down. They only allow a select few employees (mostly friends and family) come in for these several weeks. If you are hourly expect 2 or 3 day weeks in November and December and at least 2 weeks unpaid during this time. You either eat the hours or you use up your vacation time. I believe this was somewhat intentional so that you couldn't use your time during the busy season. There's a very strict attendance policy. Be late more than 3 times and you'll be fired. Even it's 1 second late. I have hundreds of more cons I could list here but I think you get the point. I would highly recommend you consider not taking a job with this employer unless you have no other choice. Use it as a stepping stone at best.
