Pros

The community banking industry has some great people involved, both internally and externally. It’s also great working with a group of talented people within the organization. There is always something to learn which makes working here interesting. The health benefits are some of the best around.

Cons

The largest issue with the organization is the overall lack of communication from the top management. Management has made an effort to be better but seems to fall short and still acts like a secret society. Most of the lower staff feel as if they are not valued for work they perform on a day to day basis. The future outlook of the company making it through the rapid consolidation of the industry is in question by most staff too. There was an efficiency study done many months ago and staff are told frequently (at every staff meeting) that there will be changes (cuts, realignment, etc). The atmosphere is like sitting on death row and waiting for your name to be called for the electric chair. It has been interesting to be lead this way by an organization. It's absolutely demoralizing for staff to have something like that consistently being told to them over and over. The most senior of the executives earn very large salaries ($600k - over $2 million) and most staff members doubt any of them were mentioned in the “study” for potential elimination. Because of continued departmental budget concerns, there are a lot of silos throughout the organization. Everyone feels the need to cover their own butts which creates an odd work environment. The "personality" and "culture" of the organization resembles more like that of the CFO than the CEO. There will be more openings coming available here in the near future given that there are others looking for other opportunities elsewhere but trying to find the right place to land.

Pros

Great opportunity to gain experience and network for connections Excellent benefits package for everyone Mission focused and well respected in DC Low turnover and extremely stable

Cons

Culture is very "every man/woman for themselves"--Little to no engagement between employees Many secret conversations/closed door meetings with some working the halls for their own benefit. Employees have been terminated, retired or relieved of responsibilities without explanation or notification to those affected by the loss. There one day, gone the next-office empty. Smart, active producers are over used to compensate for a wide swath of poor performers embedded in the organization Senior executives are a bit sloth-like, slow to respond and often have no idea what's really happening within the organization
