Pros

Shadowing done was nice as fellow carers demonstrated and explained clearly, clients are always lovely.

Cons

Only get 7 shadowing shifts, when asked for more i was ridiculed and expected to be completely ready to complete independent care duties despite not feeling confident and having zero previous experience -not fair on clients or for me as job description hilights a ‘supportive’ team. Importance of business insurance for carers care not explained at all, large distances between clients and expected to arrive within 15mins - not enough time. Staff call from personal phone numbers to reach you constantly after work hours to discuss work issues- no boundaries. I did over 25 hours of training that is not paid before getting actual shifts -not mentioned. Shift pattern and availability issues constant, with zero hour contracts office staff expect you to be available 24/7 and clearly annoyed when you have plans. Unorganised office practise, did not get informed of uniform or land yard being ready, they ignored my calls and when i came to the office they had both in a pile of other new trainees stuff -i had been there two months. Not felt supported or valued by office team, felt like a complete waste of time.

Pros

the clients made everything else worth it

Cons

terrible pay, terrible hours, once got locked in a house with a client for over 4 hours and the management were so unsupportive after the traumatising event. no communication, clients not treated with the care they needed
