Great for travel - you won't save any money

Pros

Amazing itineraries on cruise ships operated by Hardings. Not so much stress from Head Office. Depending on a type of ship, pretty easy job great for young people who want to travel for free and actually enjoy all the ports they visit as they almost never work in ports.

Cons

bad commission structure. Jeweler makes more money than a manager or assistant manager. Only bonuses upon achieving the target and still pretty embarrassing for both staff and management. Extreme low pay considering the responsibility, especially on bigger ships and almost no difference in pay if you run a ship with 6 staff or 20 staff. HB is usually one of the lowest paid department on the ship. Front desk clerk makes more money than HB Manager. No benefits, no vacation paid.

Pros

Get to travel. As a shoppie, you don't technically have to work when the ship's in port. Recruitment process and inductions at head office for new starters is fantastic.

Cons

Very bad management in Head office. Specifically from the Crew Scheduling department. There is basically a complete lack of communication between the departments to the point where the employee has to actively email each department at least three or four times a week to gather any information but their excuse is 'because you've emailed two different departments in the same day then there's no official update'...??????? How is this company being run???........I think I've answered my own question when you take into account the extremely poor salary compared to what competitors can offer. It is a known fact that through year on year growth within Hardings, they haven't raised their cruise employees salaries in 10 years!!!! 10 YEARS!!!! A large amount of back-stabbing between new managers coming on-board, targeted at the previous managers they'd replaced due to contracts finishing. If you're looking for a company with progression, look elsewhere. It's a great opportunity to travel but even when you work your way up from a shoppie level to management, it means absolutely squat back on dry land.

Pros

Get to travel the world, meet international community

Cons

Management is judgemental, allows corrupt employees to be rude, condescending, manipulative to new crew. Does not listen to truth, allows fowl language and theft of other colleagues sale. This is typical because of the archaic commission system which encourages selfishness, spitefulness and strife.
