While the organization is small and has a limited budget, this actually means that each team member is given a lot of freedom and responsibility. The Executive Director is very thoughtful in how resources are allocated, focusing on investing in the people who truly invest in the organization. It’s not about big salaries or lavish offices — it’s about making a real impact with the resources at hand.
There’s also the fact that the team is relatively lean. This means that every member of the team, including interns, gets to wear multiple hats and gain exposure to different areas of the organization. While some may perceive this as a lack of structure, I see it as a huge opportunity for growth. Andrew’s approach to leadership is flexible and dynamic, allowing everyone to find their strengths and develop new skills as needed.
One thing that I’ve appreciated is Andrew’s leadership style, which is centered around fostering a collaborative and supportive environment. While he is based in remotely (and comes to DC often), communication is never an issue. We have regular meetings and there’s always an open channel for discussing ideas or challenges. Perhaps it would be more of a "con" if you are a poor communicator and you are uncomfortable with phone, email, Gchat, and Zoom.
