Pros

When I began working at Gen-Probe many years ago, benefits were surprisingly good, especially fully paid heath care (after working for the University of California which charged over $1000/month on a poor salary). Most any health care provider was covered, and copays were reasonable. However, . . . {see Cons}.

Cons

Every year benefits became more of burdens. I know health care costs have risen, but our compensation did not keep up with inflation and the ever increasing transfer of health care costs to employees. When I last looked in 2012, I was making $10,000 less than in 2002 (in 2002 dollars). Hmmm, that cannot be right, especially with executive management getting their automatic 10+% raises, disproportionate bonuses and free stock options just to make sure they always had some stock.

Pros

The work/technology is interesting, depending on what team you are on you have the ability to be given a lot of responsibility, overall the people are friendly and smart and there is a good work/life balance

Cons

Hologic has developed a culture of bringing on temps for indefinite amounts of time and taking years to offer them a full-time position, if at all. You are not given the opportunity for career development, benefits, and a variety of other things despite doing the same work as permanent employees of your level. There have also been a horrible series of layoffs in which management has provided zero transparency, laying off many workers with no notice for reasons not related to performance issues and without notifying their managers. This is particularly difficult for temporary workers who are given no severance and no notice to look for other jobs.
