Pros

- Teamwork. Freecom has an excellent training and support network. Colleagues are always on hand to offer their advice, so teachers never need to wrestle with a problem by themselves. - Students. Hailing from a fascinating variety of backgrounds, it is a pleasure to get to know them and to help them progress towards achieving their language goals. - Opportunity. As well as teaching regular conversation classes, instructors have the chance to gain experience teaching at different companies and academic institutions, and to take on more managerial roles within the company. - Ambition. This is a growing company with exciting new projects always on the horizon. It's been a privilege to be part of the journey so far.

Cons

- Incorporating online lessons in 2020 has been a major transitional challenge. Despite providing students with a valuable alternative learning opportunity, technical glitches in these early stages have been frequent. This will hopefully be resolved as the platform becomes more established. - In the current circumstances, certain branches have been unable to employ full time Japanese staff. This is something that students miss, but unfortunately can't be helped.

Pros

I received a lot of support from the time I arrived until around a year in. After that I was set a mentor role to help new recruits with settling in since the experience was still fresh to me. The students were awesome and I got to know a lot of them on a personal level. The manager in charge of the teams was friendly and helpful. I transferred to the Tokyo branch in the second year and was working at the school and at businesses around Tokyo. I spent a lot of my week traveling between company contracts and the Tokyo branch.

Cons

I found it a bit more difficult to build personal relationships with the students at the Tokyo branch compared with the other branch I worked at because everyone lived in different areas around Tokyo. It would have been useful to receive language lessons to better understand the lower level Japanese learners.
