Great coworkers. Poor management & unrealistic expectations for low pay
Pros
If you are new to the role or just getting started, this is a good way to build your portfolio or get your foot in the door as a designer, video editor, etc. My team mebers are all very helpful and personable, I could ask them questions on Slack when I needed help or reach out for assistance when needed. The hours are 9-5 every day, so there is no late-nights or early mornings.
Cons
The management and leadership team is condescending and micromanages their employees. Occasionally they way they speak to their staff, either on Slack or in meetings, is so rude it's almost to the point of bullying. If you make a mistake, you are called out publicly on Slack or during team meetings. Mistakes are not tolerated, ever. They work off a strike system, or will let you go with no warning if they determine your mistake is worthy of being fired. It also does not matter how long you've been with the company or how many mistakes you have made in your tenure; you are held to very stressful high standards with a no mistakes policy. In regards to job security, there is none. An entire team was let go with no notice once because they decided they didn't need copywriters anymore. The South American team is paid way less than the United States based team and the upper management team. Not only that, but they make their employees sign an NDA and non-compete agreements. They hire independent contractors, but mandate that when the contractors log in daily, and when we attend meetings. All meetings are mandatory. Basically, they expect you to work as if you a salaried employee receiving benefits - but they pay their workers about 7 dollars an hour (if you're in South America, the American team gets about 18 an hour) and will fire you at a moment's notice if they decide they don't need you or your team any longer. Many of my coworkers have also not received raises, ever, despite providing evidence of their high client ratings and project completion. Overall, the leadership is the reason the churn rate is so high. This isn't including the project coordinators or the team leads, they are trying their best to create some type of community.
