Getting worse by the week

Pros

Some innovative products. Founders of the company have real vision and are quite inspirational. They are also very approachable guys.

Cons

Everything changed with new management. Re-organizations almost every week. People being asked to leave the company one day and then an immediate replacement is waiting in the wings to be brought in. The company culture has totally disappeared. There's just a feeling of overall anxiety, and that management are bringing in all their friends as directors. There's no teamwork. A culture of bullying is ignored when people are hitting quota. Sales are the only thing that's important to the managment regardless of anything else going on. It's unclear whether it's the CEO or the head of sales who's running the show. Appearances suggest the latter.

Pros

The IncuCyte is an amazing instrument. The best part of this job was the seminars and talking to customers. Customers appreciate the support from FAS and TSS, but unfortunately that varies widely from region to region.

Cons

Goals are ridiculously unattainable. They don’t care a bit about anyone who works there. Everyone is dispensable and it shows in their attitudes and behavior towards their sales and support teams. The micromanagement will beat you down, steal your confidence, and leave you bitter and angry. When I gave my notice my manager didn’t even call me. HR called me and let me go on the spot.

This company needs a culture badly...

Pros

IncuCyte is a cutting-edge, innovative imaging platform with interesting applications. Seems to be rapidly growing now that Essen has merged with IntelliCyt under Sartorius. Lots of potential synergies and mapped out vision of selling the two platforms together. There also seems to be some stability despite the recent acquistion by Sartorius. OK work/life balance, but not great.

Cons

Zero culture. There is no life or fun in the office, it is truly a boring place to work. Everyone hides at their desks. No culture or employee appreciation. Their idea of fun and celebration is to have once a year, 30 minute sloppy joe convention in a warehouse. They only run it like a business and you will be treated like a robot. This is also not a place to work if you expect to receive any training, which leads to turnover. Essen (now Sartorius) does not offer any sort of professional or career development. Best suited for veterans of the industry. Most of the job will also consist of managing egos of long-term employees and dealing with office politics. Engineering team has a hard time keeping up with market demands and Essen is always one step behind top competitors. This puts extra strain on the sales team to 'sell or spin it any way they can' despite IncuCyte falling short in the specs -hardware and/or software- department. Main building in Ann Arbor needs a major renovation. You can tell little care, if any, goes into employee satisfaction, happiness, or well-being. Teams are not well-aligned, as there is a large communication gap between sales and marketing, for example. Teams are too siloed and isolated from one another. Maybe this has to do with the way upper management is so stuck in their ways. Many customer issues and complaints are poorly handled, or take forever to respond. Healthcare and benefits went downhill since Sartorius buy-out. Harder when you have kids and need to support your family.
