Pros

- The executives of the company bring so much energy and enthusiasm each and every day to the office that, despite having a flexible work from home policy, you want to be around. They make themselves accessible to everyone and are very knowledgeable about every aspect of the business. - You very quickly get to know everyone in the office as everyone - without exception - is super friendly and approachable. From Day 1 I felt right at home. I've worked for a lot of tech companies that pride themselves on having a great culture and a team that feels like "family." This is the first time I would consider that as a somewhat reasonable statement. I'm of the opinion there is no comparison to the bond and commitment you have with your blood but APPrisers all genuinely care for each other's well being and I have seen people sacrifice their own well being for the betterment of a coworker that is struggling. Those are parallels to the traits of a good family. - There is a genuine effort to provide their employees with a good work/life balance. If management sees you struggling to keep up, they'll make a serious effort to remedy the situation. - I never realized how essential a good HR Manager is to a startup company until I started working here. Dhrushti is the catalyst of many of the great things I like about working for APPrise. She is approachable, caring, understanding, and brings so much energy and creativity that it's almost impossible for some of it not to rub off on you; even on your worst days. - Freedom of expression. They encourage employees to speak up and voice ideas and constructive criticisms. - Unlimited PTO. A lot of tech startups are claiming this as a benefit but it always comes with the catch of "with management approval" and many of my previous managers will dish me enough work that I'd never feel comfortable with taking a week off. So at some companies I'd actually consider this a con as I wouldn't get a payout for my unused accrued vacation time. At this company there does seem to be a genuine effort and drive to encourage a healthy amount of PTO. I can't think of anyone in the office that hasn't told a great vacation story they've had this year. I wouldn't say this is a strong pro though as, in my experience, you cannot be completely off the grid while on vacation. I have been expected to respond to emails on a somewhat flexible basis. It is a very small company so for many roles you are quite literally the only person that can perform certain tasks so I suppose that is only reasonable. With that understanding, I consider this policy a fairly solid pro, especially when compared with other small tech startups. - Great office location. It's within blocks of most subway lines and Central Park is only a few blocks over with lot of great lunch and coffee spots.

Cons

- The interviewing process was brutal. I can only speak from my own experience but there is no doubt they are very meticulous in their hiring. I had to complete a pretty lengthy personality assessment which I suppose is why we all get along so well but it almost put me over the edge and I nearly gave up. In hindsight I'm glad I didn't but I do worry that we may lose good candidates to the lengthy hiring process. - There are pretty aggressive deadlines set where, if you don't manage expectations appropriately, you can drown pretty quickly. - No 401(k) match and the benefit options are not the best. - The building is having a temperature control issue. It can get pretty stuffy in the office and you can't open the windows. Hopefully that will be resolved soon...

Thank you for your review! APPrise Mobile is proud to employ team members who care for each other as much as they care for their work. One of the most important components of our positive and energetic culture is our 'People Matter' value which our team truly embodies in their everyday interactions with clients & colleagues. We're glad you're a part of that!We completely understand where the interview process could be seemingly long. Our process is designed to allow for each critical%C2%A0functional area, with whom the candidate is expected to work, to have the opportunity to meet with them and assess their skills / compatibility. This includes a cognitive assessment, a culture fit interview, etc. The purpose behind the multiple steps is to build the high-performing and energetic team that we have now and give the candidate a chance to also meet as many team members as possible. We provide all of our employees with a competitive benefits package that balances what employees need and want. We always look for ways to optimize this year-to-year and although we currently do not match 401K contributions, we do offer stock options which are highly valued.%C2%A0Hope you're enjoying the cooler office!!%C2%A0Thank you again for submitting your review. We sincerely appreciate your feedback.%C2%A0

Pros

APPrise works hard to make you feel welcome from day 1. Everyone is incredibly kind, friendly, and supportive—so much so that I'm pretty sure "be a good person" is part of their hiring criteria. You'll actually feel like part of a family here, and dare I say, look forward to hanging out with your colleagues after hours. I know, I know, almost too good to be true, but I've truly never worked anywhere like APPrise. Of course, none of the great culture would be possible without an incredible leadership team. You'll always feel heard and they're committed to transparency. A lot of companies say they are, but APPrise actually is—nothing is sugarcoated and it's clearly important to them that the whole of the company is aware of what's going on, good or bad. With Doug at the helm (AKA the nicest and most accessible C-suite executive I've ever met), I could not think of a better group of people to run the company. Mobile Internal Comms is a growing industry, and APPrise is poised to become the leader with theEMPLOYEEapp. It's a small team, so in many ways is very much still a startup as you may find yourself wearing many hats. What's nice about this though is that your work is meaningful and you can see clearly how it contributes to the company's overall KPIs. Work/life balance is amazing—you have unlimited PTO and no one ever makes you feel bad about using it (as long as you're getting your work done!). At times, I was even encouraged to take MORE time off and was never ever expected to be on the grid while on vacation.

Cons

If you join the client side of the company, be aware that you will most certainly encounter clients that are not at all tech savvy—patience is key. APPrise works with a lot of really well known companies and the downside to that is that many still work with antiquated technology systems. Luckily, theEMPLOYEEapp was built to be very easy to use, so it won't be a major issue. The VC funding the company felt a bit overbearing at times, and while the acquisition was exciting at first, I found it to be a strange choice in end considering how it netted out. I would have strongly preferred that the founder didn't get cut out of the company, as he brought a lot of life and passion to the office, but I understand the choice from a business strategy standpoint—just understand that it rubbed many people the wrong way. Like all startups, there are some growing pains, but overall, I loved my experience working at APPrise and recommend it to anyone passionate about the space!
