Cons

The logistics engineering department is toxic. Management gaslights the staff. They treat individual performance as a competition between engineers and undermine their employees ability to perform. Management dismisses creative thoughts and opinions as invalid and as going against their purpose. This runs throughout the entire hierarchy, starting out with engineers being too scared to speak up in fear of negative consequences, to team leads not being honest about their feedback to management and keeping the lines of communication to the employee closed, to the engineering directors defending the behaviour as being "not for everyone". "Not for everyone" is a violation of employment inclusivity standards in South Africa and goes against Takealot's claims of being a force for good in their community. Their onboarding and training claims of being supportive of career growth and getting employees up to speed are "one size fits all", and are not backed up by how they end up treating individuals. There is an expectation to do "on call" with no training on how to handle incidents and when asking for help, it will held against you. Their performance metrics are based on the number of lines of code committed and cadence, instead of delivering quality.
