Pros

They did prioritise hiring minorities/ immigrant workers (easier to exploit) There are some amazing human beings trying their best to support the clients reliant on mecwacare.

Cons

Please, do not work here unless you are literally desperate. I know most people reading these assume these negative reviews are just disgruntled workers who weren't good at their job but trust me - the negative reviews are justified. As somebody who saw every environment this business offers (I worked within head office and on sites regularly as part of my role) I have witnessed neglect and harmful, toxic behavior to both residents and staff. This organisation is NOT worth your mental health and sense of self-worth. In a righteous world, this organisation would collapse under the ego and mismanagement of the CEO and other senior management who prop up this literal narcissist. Don't believe me? Google "mecwacare boroondara controversy" this is not an exceptional, one off event, rather is just a publicised version of something that happens often within mecwacare i.e. the CEO prepared to walk over bodies to achieve her goals. As for you as an individual what you can expect from mecwacare: Low salary, extremely hierachial organisation, very few competent workers (mostly anyone competent leaves) lack of respect, pay rises that rarely if ever reflect additional experienced earned during employment and a sense of hopelessness about the world as you witness the mistreatment of the most vulnerable people in our society. If you HAVE to work here, prepare your exit strategy before you even begin.

Pros

The people who provide the frontline care are amazing. The people who receive the care are beautiful and deserve the best.

Cons

The reality of being in this office was not for me.

Pros

I joined mecwacare believing in its core values, but my time revealed a profound disconnect between its curated image and the stark reality. The most distressing aspect was the persistent lack of genuine care. There is a vast gulf between rhetoric and reality; mecwacare aggressively promotes a superficial facade internally and externally, but this compassion is entirely for show. In practice, staff wellbeing and client outcomes are secondary to corporate objectives. Consequently, the culture is the most toxic I have encountered in my career. Frustration and burnout are constant and widespread. These are not isolated incidents, but chronic, recurring themes discussed openly by an unsupported, unheard workforce. Over time, I watched capable, dedicated people have their spirits broken and give up advocating for change, realising their efforts were futile. Chronic stress and abysmal morale have taken a visible, lasting toll on the mental and physical wellbeing of the workforce.

Cons

The CEO and executive leadership are completely severed from frontline operational realities. This systemic alienation means top-level decisions generate unnecessary stress and friction. Recent operational changes failed to solve underlying causes; they merely increased workloads, compounding pressure on an already exhausted workforce. This environment is exceptionally difficult for professionals with strong ethics. Employees who challenge poor decisions are treated as the problem, not assets. Speaking up carries professional and personal consequences, teaching staff that silence is safer than advocacy. I strongly advise applicants to research thoroughly, seek unfiltered feedback from current and former staff, and evaluate if this culture aligns with your standards. I cannot recommend mecwacare.
