There are mostly good people still working there (for the time being), but the majority are unfortunately overshadowed by the impact of the people above. It’s an ok stepping stone job that will pay decently initially if you are a novice but you will probably never get a pay rise unless you are extremely lucky or kiss up to the boss, they also provide pay for training but will most likely not guide you in any way as they don’t even know what it is they hired you for. The BBQ and Christmas party are decent if you can block out management who will be judging your every move. The shares scheme might be good but no one knows what it actually is and it all depends on if the company sells which was already meant to have happened by now multiple times and never has. Management are good at selling you a dream initially. Oh and don't forget the free fruit!

Everything is personal, not professional. If you even want a miniscule chance of progressing in this dodgy business be prepared to sell your soul and attempt to advertise false information and statistics to anyone foolish enough to listen. Promotions are given to people with zero skills in the relevant department or in team management in general. Yes you will hear often that the company is doing well and numbers are on the up but considering yearly bonuses are being delayed and spread across multiple months and also that most of the customers are actually shop owners exploiting the company for money, this shows the real story. The 4 day week may seem like a progressive step but most likely you will be expected to work when called upon outside of hours which, whilst this obviously isn’t legally compulsory, if you don’t you can kiss any chance of progressing goodbye. The atmosphere can be decent when management is not around but when they are the toxicity spreads through the whole building as they listen to everything you say and will happily chew you out in front of everyone for no good reason. There is also a constant battle between the CEO and MD for power which due to the tiny workspace is not kept a secret and just demonstrates so many underlying issues with the company, the CEO has essentially given up all his power to a dictator-like MD and his little COO stooge who had no experience in these roles beforehand as the MD was a salesman and the COO was a barista. Execs also don’t lead by example as they use their work hours to travel to and from their homes whilst all the other employees can’t even be 5 minutes late from lunch without getting a stern warning which will be held against them for the rest of their tenure. Last year the company had a near 50% staff retention rate as those who had been with the business for multiple years finally left as they accepted the lost cause and terrible environment this place was to which they have all gone on to more secure, higher earning, and more enjoyable roles. Most of the staff left on their own accord but some were let go before their probation period was up which many in the business viewed as harsh and unfair as a lot were good employees. One was let go for speaking up to management which just says it all. Also not that this really matters but be prepared that if you do leave this company for your name to still be brought up constantly as they try and put all the blame on previous employees as to why the business is failing. The higher ups try and constantly introduce new ideas and concepts to the business but this is done in a very erratic and 'throwing stuff at a wall' manner. They will then put loads of unnecessary pressure on employees to make their concept a reality only for it to crumble and for them to then shift blame to the people they hired! Upper management will also introduce 'ground breaking' ideas such as the staff break room, which was a decent concept as it was meant to be a place colleagues could hang out at lunch if they wanted to, and also had contained a mini fridge and TV. However, you cannot actually use the TV or the mini-fridge and the room is so small that if more than 6 people are present it feels very crowded. It was then stated that employees HAD to eat there so it was no longer optional. This again wasn’t great due to the crowding but was also made more awkward by the managers no one liked sitting there listening to every conversation, so for the most part what was meant to be a relaxing room mostly contained an eerie silence. It was then revealed that the only reason the break room was brought about was so that the managers could sit in there after work and drink. They make out certain ‘perks’ are for the employees when really there is always a hidden motive. Jisp also views mental health as a joke, with the COO being appointed as the mental health specialist when in fact it is him who is the burden on many employee’s mental health in the first place. He is maybe the least approachable person and will use past events against you constantly even if they were previously resolved, and he has been known to make multiple employees cry due to his inability to show any sense of empathy or emotion but expects people to care when he starts crying because of a migraine. I understand that management don’t have to be liked, but if they want to succeed they need to at least be respected to which they do nothing to garner any respect from anyone. The COO also attends appraisals of the employees he doesn’t like (yes not all appraisals he is very selective) and uses this to chew them out and make sure they gain no benefit from their line managers who know he’s awful but won’t say anything as they don’t want to jeopardise that sweet, sweet dollar. The fact that the company promote mental health awareness is laughable as no one feels like they can speak to anyone as the COO is a pretty terrible person and HR produces the most gossip out of anyone in the company. Also in certain cases events have been brought up to the CEO who does nothing and just shrugs issues off like they're nothing which is very concerning when it is his business. Empathy and understanding is not something regularly exercised. Another thing I saw the company promote was how they have a fairly even spread of men and women, showcasing their diversity. Little do they mention how the women are actually treated terribly in the business. Men are heavily favoured for promotions whilst the women are screamed at and sometimes made to cry by their power hungry bosses who have before asked some of them to stop wearing certain clothes that are “too distracting”. Inappropriate comments are also regularly made but as mentioned there is no one to go too regarding this and if you do have the courage to try and speak to someone it’ll just get swept under the rug like any other problem that is presented to them. Not to mention also there has been one or two physical incidents. There are some good days to be had with this company but these are very few and far between. With terrible executives both at their roles and as people the company is destined to continue in a constant state of false promises and HR concerns. The pay and pension are pretty atrocious and there is a very small chance of any progression. If you can stick it out for a year and use it as a stepping stone to move onto bigger and better things at actual established and well run businesses than credit to you, although you may be arriving to your new venture with no hair as you’ve been constantly pulling it out due to the incompetence of the people you worked under before. I do hope the company somehow sells as there are some hardworking people that deserve it, but considering how the company produces dodgy contracts and skewed figures I’m not actually sure how much benefit any of the people who deserve it would actually get compared to the unethical and deluded spanners who are at the top.
