Pros
Working for i-Spy has given me a great opportunity to visit new restaurants - including some that I wouldn't be able to afford. The job requires a lot of attention to detail during both the meal and the report writing process, and this has challenged me to really pay attention to what I'm eating and experiencing in restaurants. I'm enjoying dining out (whether as a mystery shopper or on my own) more because of it. I have a lot of fun as a mystery shopper, and my list of friends and family who want to tag along is growing! Also, Marc is great about answering questions and providing feedback, which was very helpful for me as I learned the process. Finally, payment/reimbursement is processed quickly.
Cons
These aren't cons so much as points to keep in mind if you're thinking about applying: Because the process of conducting and writing about a visit requires a lot of precision and attention to detail, this job might not be for everybody. Reports take at least a couple of hours, sometimes longer, to complete (especially when you're starting out); you need to complete them quickly, and you will receive feedback and questions that need to be addressed in a timely manner. I actually enjoy writing the reports, but if you're not a patient/detail-oriented person, this job might not be a good fit. The style, format, and tone of the reports need to be consistent and uniform - bear in mind that you're not being asked to write, stay, a restaurant review, so while the reports require description, they don't require a lot of flowery writing.
