Pros

Genuinely talented and enthusiastic team - you’ll work alongside people who are passionate about what they do Strong work ethic across teams - many colleagues are dedicated and hard-working Ambitious company with clear potential - the business has big ideas and aims high Benefits package is ok

Cons

Salaries are below market average for comparable roles. Lots of strategic vision, but limited follow-through - while the company demonstrates a strong understanding of the market and has no shortage of ideas, execution often lacks depth. As a result, the technology tends to aim for breadth over depth, trying to do everything without fully excelling in any one area. It often feels like it’s all about the headlines - impressive at first glance, but the reality beneath the surface can be disappointing. Recognition is inconsistent and often driven by optics - projects that align with trendier buzzwords tend to get more attention, while equally high quality but less visible work is frequently overlooked. The resulting sense of inequity has a noticeable impact on morale, leaving teams feeling undervalued and individuals questioning the value of their contributions. Severely limited career progression - internal promotions are rare, with a noticeable preference for external hires. The sentiment that it's a “really big achievement” to get promoted internally can feels like a way to justify the lack of progression opportunities. Promotes a strong feedback culture, but responses often feel superficial - surface-level actions may be implemented to appear responsive, without making meaningful changes or addressing the root issues. Project assignments can feel luck-based - you might land something engaging and career-building, or you might get stuck on work that’s uninteresting, lacks learning opportunities, and ultimately holds you back with little support to move elsewhere. Attempts to raise concerns about this can often meet deaf ears. Micromanagement despite claims of autonomy - although the company promotes a culture of trust and independence, the reality is heavy micromanagement and very little true autonomy. Employees are churned through at an alarming rate, and overwork is common, leading to widespread burnout and the loss of strong talent. We ultimately had a mismatch: I was looking for meaningful challenges and a place where hard work and achievements would be celebrated or at least recognised, while they were essentially looking for an intern to handle busy work.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed reflection. It’s clear a lot of thought went into it, and we appreciate you being open about your experience. hyperexponential is designed for people who want to work in areas where the problems aren’t fully defined yet. Much of the work involves exploring, testing, and iterating in real conditions before things feel polished. For some, that’s energising. For others, it can feel like too much uncertainty, and that difference in preference really matters. Progression, recognition, and autonomy here are closely linked to impact and judgment over time. We try to hold a high bar, while recognising that not everyone experiences that environment in the same way. What feels empowering to one person can feel uncomfortable to another, and both reactions are valid. We aim to be transparent about this from the outset because misalignment is costly on both sides. The people who tend to enjoy hx most are those who like taking responsibility early, working through ambiguity, and focusing on outcomes rather than external validation. It sounds like this wasn’t the right match for what you were looking for, and that’s important to acknowledge. Thank you for sharing your perspective, and we wish you well in finding an environment that suits you better. Ash Rama VP People

Pros

i can’t think of any

Cons

The company boasts its impressive values, but they don’t apply to the leadership team. Expect to be micromanaged and pushed hard to meet goals, without any structure, training, or strategy to get you there. The culture is nowhere to be found. The office is dead silent and lacks the camaraderie you’d expect from a startup with strong values and “identity”. Any attempt to impact the culture is met with resistance. Expect overcommunication and endless meetings repeating high level ideas with little time remaining to actually do the work. Thats because everyones going through the motions, but very few know what they’re actually doing. If you’re good at bragging about small achievements, you’ll do great here. If you’re hoping to be intellectually challenged and to make an impact, I’d look elsewhere.

Every review offers a perspective, but some say more about the experience of misalignment than about the culture itself. It’s clear this was not the right environment for you. That happens. Our culture is fast-moving, direct, and built on trust and autonomy. It works best for people who are self-driven, comfortable with ambiguity, and motivated by high standards. For others, it can feel unstructured or intense. That’s not a flaw in either direction, just a mismatch. For those it does work for, it really works. We have so many hxers doing impactful work, growing fast, supporting one another, and helping us grow in many meaningful ways. We appreciate your time with us and wish you the best in finding a role and culture that’s the perfect match for you. Ash Rama, VP People
