Pros

Talented people genuinely trying to improve the product and business. Teams did their best but leadership trashed this company. These people did not deserve this outcome.

Cons

This company was led into failure by a leadership team that ignored reality until it was too late, then laid off nearly half the company immediately after the holiday break with no severance. Employees were given no meaningful warning or time to prepare. In my case, the only compensation provided after termination was four days of pay covering January 1 through January 5. The people who made the decisions that led here remain employed. The people who cared and raised concerns paid the price. Over an extended period of time, employees across multiple functions raised consistent concerns about strategy, execution, customer signals, and risk. This feedback came from experienced professionals hired specifically for their expertise. Rather than being meaningfully addressed, these concerns were ignored, minimized, deflected, or dismissed when they conflicted with leadership’s preferred direction. What made this especially damaging was the persistent messaging from leadership that the company was “on track” and that concerns were overblown, even as internal signals pointed clearly to decline. Employees were repeatedly reassured that everything was fine while contradictory evidence was ignored. This created an environment where valid concerns were invalidated rather than examined. Leadership had ample time to acknowledge where things were heading and to be transparent, giving people the opportunity to make informed decisions for themselves. Instead, appearances were prioritized over honesty, and leadership chose silence and reassurance over accountability. Decision making was driven primarily by leadership opinion rather than data, customer validation, or rigorous analysis. Ideas were pursued without sufficient research or testing, and perspectives were not welcomed unless they aligned with leadership’s existing beliefs. The same warnings were raised independently by different teams over time. Leadership chose not to engage. Many of those impacted by the layoffs were the same individuals actively trying to introduce discipline, validation, and realism into decision making. The outcome was not surprising. It was entirely predictable. Prospective employees should not rationalize this role away with “what ifs.” Do not tell yourself there are limited options, that this could be a temporary step, or that you will regret saying no to it. If you are considering an offer here, assume the risk is real and immediate. Assume your role exists to support optics, not long term outcomes. Assume you will be asked to absorb the consequences of decisions you did not make. If that is not acceptable to you, walk away.
