Pros
-Opportunity to break into the world of production if you’re interested in it. -Open kitchen (free snacks/drinks/alcohol) -Decent job for entry level applicants who are either fresh out of college or considering getting into the VFX industry -Free meals when you work with clients -Free lunch on Fridays -For the most part, artists are friendly and very talented. -Ample overtime (*Could be a Con if you don’t want excessive overtime)
Cons
-Out of touch managerial staff and unclear management structure. -No clear career paths. -Generally expected to be on call at all times to answer questions and to be in the building indefinitely as things come up and go wrong. -Lots of shifts of working 9+ hours with no lunch break or lunch coverage; requiring you to sometimes be in the building for 9+ hours without being able to leave due to busy schedules, people being out, phone coverage etc. -There is a general acceptance among the staff that the upper management can manipulative and that employee personal information has occasionally been inappropriately shared with the staff. -During times of renovations, frequently taking phone calls from contractors outside of work hours without pay. -The reality of the roles and responsibilities differed greatly from the original job description and the interview. -Limited to no additional coverage for the role if you need to be out. -No fixed end of shift time. You might be out after the standard 9 hours but you might be out at 10pm. All depends on what’s going on around the office. -Rude/Condescending clients at times. -Cold work culture created by an often cliquey management and a few entitled employees. -Expected to work at a minimum 10 hours of over time a pay period. *Could be a ‘pro’ if you enjoy the opportunity for lots of overtime* -Likely, the ideal candidate for this role is a fresh-out-of-school individual who has limited responsibility outside of work -e.g. kids, family, pets, chronic illnesses etc
