Pros

Most of all I enjoy the team working atmosphere. People are very helpful and responsive. The technology stack is up-to-date, regularly updated and mostly doesn’t contain legacy. Company encourages self education and allows you to devote time to investigate and play with some new API or framework with a target to utilize it. Every two weeks we have Technical All Hands where engineer can share his/her achievements. The development standards are high as well. We are using SonarCloud Quality Gate with tight quality checks. All BE engineers are quite obsessed with unit testing and this is well justified because there is not dedicated QA role in the company. From a process perspective it is simple and straightforward: we have quarter OKRs and during this period we pace with a one week sprint which means each Monday starts with planning and Friday ends with Retro and Review. Someone can say this is an overkill pace but fast iterations make it transparent and feedback comes sooner. “Getting things done” principle is a prominent part of the engineering culture, if you are not comfortable with it then maybe it’s worth knocking to the next door. Most of the tasks are really challenging, rarely - boring. However for me personally pair programming makes them fun and also smooths potential technical pitfalls.

Cons

Some of the pros can actually sound like cons for someone. Another thing - since the company is fairly small, teams have a lot of responsibilities and when the customer issue happens, it requires immediate response and causes interruption in the dev process. However, that’s the reality of being startup and having live product.
