Pros

Manager, head receptionist & veterinarians were lovely and checked up on me often. The job really improved my confidence. I personally enjoyed working in the pharmacy dispensing prescriptions for pets. All the other receptionists (bar one who was really rude) always have your back and are brilliant, kind women. The onboarding process was great compared to other companies in terms of communication over email and sending over useful documents before you start. The company seemed aware of mental health in the veterinary industry

Cons

Unpaid trial days before you start. Probably obvious but the phone...rings...constantly!!! It can be overwhelming and stressful (especially when you have 5 emergencies in a row), and it tended to hit me when I went home in the form of tears and panic attacks - wouldn't recommend this job if you get anxious or get overwhelmed easily. Expect to run around like a headless chicken after endless emergency phone calls and needing to check with a vet if you can get an emergency appt for them, also running to find and bother a vet to sign prescriptions for you. Training hugely consists of being thrown into the thick of it - I was told to just answer the phone and if I don't know what to do put them on hold, and as I wasn't trained in a lot of things people were put on hold constantly... Also due to the lack of training before working with customers, mistakes can be made when you know no better - leading to angry customers and costing the company money in some cases. Some of the pet owners are rude and nasty, so you need a thick skin to deal with it! (there are some lovely owners too) Not just a receptionist role, you are also expected to clean (mop & hoover everywhere and sterilise the consultation rooms from wall to floor) at the end of the day, which is stressful but sometimes you leave early, sometimes you leave 45 minutes late. 8 and a half hour shifts with just a 30 min break is criminal.
